Maria Georgas Debunks Pete Davidson Rehab, Relationship Rumors

A flurry of tabloid stories claiming Pete Davidson had checked into rehab following a secret relationship and breakup with Season 28 The Bachelor contestant Maria Georgas emerged on Tuesday, November 19.

Pete rose to fame on Saturday Night Live, and while he's an incredibly talented comic, he typically makes the news for his romantic entanglements with high-profile reality TV stars (like Kim Kardashian) and A-listers (like Ariana Grande) — something he joked about in an "I'm Just Ken" parody when he hosted SNL last year:

He's also notably open about managing his mental health, and in the same song, Pete alludes to the idea that he routinely "checks in" to rehab:

And out of the blue, like three times a year, when you least expect it I go to rehab ...

The recent spate of rumors about Pete checking into rehab involved Maria Georgas, who seems to have been name checked in every dating scandal recently.

For instance, during the controversial finale of Jenn Tran's season of The Bachelorette, Jenn and now-ex Devin Strader argued about Devin's alleged interactions with Maria during their breakup.

Which is all to say that rumors about Pete checking into rehab after a purported secret breakup with Maria Georgas are basically catnip for tabloids, involving several subjects and topics that are guaranteed to generate clicks — irrespective of their veracity.

Suffice to say, nearly everyone reported that Pete checked into rehab, citing a single source, British tabloid The Sun.

Incidentally, Jenn was rumored to also have been involved with Pete:

Pete's Rehab Rumors And Conflicting 'Insiders'

On Tuesday, The Sun published an item titled "Pete Davidson checks into rehab in ‘bad shape’ after secret romance and breakup with The Bachelor villain Maria Georgas."

Although the headline sounded fairly definitive, and it lacked qualifiers like "report" or "source," The Sun credited the claim to an unnamed person:

"'He checked into rehab in Florida fairly recently,' [an] insider said of Pete.

"'He flew in on a private jet ... He's in pretty bad shape this time around,' the insider added. 'He's not in a good place.'"

Very little of what the anonymous person said was substantive, but the story spread quickly.

The New York Post's gossip site Page Six jumped in with "Pete Davidson checks into rehab for second time this year after secret relationship with ‘Bachelor’ alum Maria Georgas: report," tacking "report" onto the end of their headline to denote that the claim was unsubstantiated.

At the time of publication, the first sentence of Page Six's article indicates that "a source tells Page Six that is not true" — but cached Google results suggest that the article was possibly "stealth edited" after it was published, with the second half of the sentence edited in after publication:

If the article was edited, it was done sloppily, continuing on as if Pete was indeed currently in rehab: "Though the exact date when Davidson, 31, checked in is unknown, the insider told the outlet it was 'very recent.'"

A few paragraphs later, Page Six reiterated: "However, a source close to Davidson tells Page Six 'he’s not in rehab' and is currently in NYC."

Maria Georgas debunked the claims via Instagram Story, first explaining that she and Pete neither dated nor broke up:

Never dated Pete. False rumor! I'm friends with his sister. Case Closed.

In a second pane, she addressed rumors Pete went to rehab due to their non-existent breakup:

"Just spoke to [Pete's] sister[,] he's not in rehab and has been sober for months. Can't believe this s***[,] it's very insulting to his recovery and my mental health.

"He's literally home."

Pete hasn't addressed the rumors, but Maria put them to rest with her Story — and, as she pointed out, such rumors are potentially detrimental to his sustained recovery.
