Both The Property Brothers and Fixer Upper are major reasons for HGTV's success over the years. Surprisingly, despite the similarities between the shows, collabs have been few and far between ever since. The two sides haven't said much about one another, aside from a brief statement back in 2017.
Jonathan Scott addressed the rumors, but it seemed like he would lead to more questions than answers. As for Chip and Joanna Gaines, aside from a tweet on X back in 2014, they haven't done much to clear up the rumors either.
Let's recap what The Property Brothers had to say, and other controversies involving the two sides over the years.
The Property Brother Finally Answered A Question About Their Rumored Feud With Chip And Joanna Gaines
Back in 2017, The Property Brothers finally answered a question about the apparent feud with Chip and Joanna Gaines. The rumor was started by People, after it was revealed that Chip and Joanna turned down an invite from Drew and Jonathan Scott to appear on their spinoff, Brother vs Brother.
The problematic part was the excuse for not appearing. Rumors suggest Chip and Joanna Gaines simply said they were too busy to appear.
When assessing the feud, The Property Brothers admitted that they hadn't spent much time with Chip and Joanna in the past, despite being in the same realm of reality TV.
"We know a lot of the [HGTV] talent really well. Our show started airing in 2011 and over that time we've met [Chip and Joanna Gaines] once or twice. They were really nice."
The answer was a brief one, while Jonathan also touched on the competition brewing between the two sides.
"Chip and Joanna keep it to where they live in Waco and do their own thing, where Drew and I, we travel around."
"No, we're not jealous of them," Drew told the Times. "They are phenomenally successful, the audience loves them and our fans have been asking for us to do something."
On the flip side, Chip and Joanna Gained haven't said much in regard to The Property Brothers. Though Chip did post a sarcastic photo with the two stars prior to rumors back in 2014.
Chip and Joanna Gaines have a combined net worth of $100 million, while The Property Brothers have double the amount at $200 million.
Since 2017, neither side has said anything, nor has any type of collaboration taken place despite their interest. Clearly, The Property Brothers' explanation would lead to more questions than answers in the following years.
The Property Brothers Are Currently Tangled In Other Battles Off-Camera
It seems like issues are ongoing for The Property Brothers, though these allegations are a little more serious and involve a legal battle. According to News Nation, The Property Brother appeared in Las Vegas court over a legal battle related to home defects. Paul and Mindy King were behind the lawsuit. In an effort to build their dream house, the couple put in $200K for the renovations.
Mindy King tells KLAS, “We didn’t have a honeymoon. I didn’t get a wedding band. We took our savings because we trusted Jonathan and Drew.”
Since then, the couple has been in a lengthy lawsuit with The Property Brothers and a slew of others involved with the renovation of their home.
“Our lives are on hold. We’re living in hell. We can’t use the kitchen. We can’t use like anything. We are in constant ‘fear [of our] safety’,” Mindy King said.
“Prior to the ‘Property Brothers’ coming here, and renovating the house, the house passed multiple levels of inspections, and nothing was wrong,” said Mindy.
The Kings stated in their lawsuit that sludge and sewer leaks took place, damaging cabinets and pipes in the home.
A resolution has taken place just yet, with a jury trial set for October 2024.
Chip And Joanna Gaines Have Faced Issues Of Their Own In Recent Years Away From The Camera
Lawsuits and scandals have also been a reality for Chip and Joanna Gaines. With their added popularity and soaring net worth, this usually tends to be the case. In one instance back in 2017, Chip and Joanna Gaines were put on blast for supporting a church that was headed by a Pastor with troubling anti-LGBTQ views.
Credit to Chip, who released a statement regarding the issue at the time.
Chip said of the allegations:
- "Joanna and I have personal convictions. One of them is this: we care about you for the simple fact that you are a person, our neighbor on planet earth. It's not about what color your skin is, how much money you have in the bank, your political affiliation, sexual orientation, gender, nationality or faith... Jo and I feel called to be bridge builders."
- "We want to help initiate conversations between people that don’t think alike. Listen to me; we do not all have to agree with each other. Disagreement is not the same thing as hate - don’t believe that lie."
Chip and Joanna Gaines faced other controversies which included a partnership with Target, a lawsuit with Magnolia Realty, allegedly driving up tax valuations due to their flips.
