‘West Side Story’ actress Rachel Zelger has apologised for seemingly mocking the ongoing feud between Britney Spears and her sister Jamie Lynn. The siblings have been very publicly battling each other in a war of words on social media recently, sparked by comments Jamie Lynn made while promoting her new memoir ‘Things I Should Have Said’.
Zelger posted videos of herself dramatically acting out extracts from the sisters’ spat, including Britney Spears’s denial that she had once locked her and Jamie Lynn in a room while brandishing a knife. The posts caused a torrent of backlash from fans, who accused the 20-year-old of making light of the situation.
Fans Slammed Zelger As 'Weird' And Accused Her Of Mocking 'Britney's Trauma'
One user retorted “Taking Britney’s trauma and turning it into a self-tape is weird a** behavior,” while another wrote “How do you see a person relive their trauma in public and your first thought is to treat it like a script for a fake audition?”
Following these reactions Zelger took to Twitter to issue an apology. She began “Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Britney and am rooting for her always.”
“While I meant no disrespect whatsoever, I should have thought about how this could be perceived, and I’m so sorry for upsetting or disappointing anyone.”
Zelger Thanked 'All Who Held Me Accountable'
“This is not a situation to be taken lightly, and we should all be lifting Britney up in this pivotal time. Thanks for hearing me out, and a big thank you to all who held me accountable.”
Britney was not the only one to take issue with her sister’s upcoming memoir. A leaked extract from the book showed a segment in which Jamie Lynn was speaking of her former Zoey 101 co-star Alexa Nikolas.
In the clipping Lynn penned "I began to suspect that she was interested in having me thrown off the show in the hopes they could make Alexa the star." She also slammed Nikolas’ bullying claims as "Designed to garner attention once her fame had waned."
Alexa was less than impressed by the segment, taking to Instagram she snapped back "I was pretty surprised to see her lying up a storm in there."
“She never addressed anything that she mentioned in the book to me personally because she knows everything she is saying is a total lie and I would have called her out on that. One on one.”
“It’s sad to see someone not change after all these years. Nothing that she said in her book about me actually happened.”
