Rainn Wilson is starring in the new drama series Utopia, an adapted version of the British original. While discussing the show and its odd connection to today's society, he pondered how his arguably most acclaimed character in his career would deal with the dystopian world the show depicts. Rushed vaccines, viruses, wildfires, and more layered drama might prove too much for the fictional character.

Career Crossover

The series that includes, "billionaires, conspiracy theories, (and) government organizations," would make any viewer at home wonder how they would survive in an extremely elevated version of today's world. The interviewer for ET Canada, however, was focused on Dwight Schrute's hypothetical scenario, whom Wilson played in the nine-season-long classic The Office.

Wilson happily played into Schrute's tactics if placed in a conspiracy-saturated era, "He'd be all in. He would love this world, he would love to be part of that group obsessed with the utopia and dystopia comic books." We can just imagine the wall full of connected figures, newspaper clippings, and covered in notes.

Emergency measures might draw fans back to the famous fire drill scene in The Office where Schrute pretends a real fire erupts and tests his coworkers to see if they're prepared. Spoiler, they're not and Oscar tries to escape through an air vent.

Realistic Expectations

The actor mused that while Schrute would become obsessed with Utopia's circumstances, he might not be the strongest link, "He would stay up all night pouring over clues. I don't think he'd be very good at it but he would be completely committed." Well, Dwight cutting off a mannequin's face during a CPR seminar wouldn't fly with Utopia characters Jessica and Thomas. Wilson has a point, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't love to see his crazy antics unfold.

John Cusack joined the interview and after learning that Wilson called him a national treasure, he offered the same compliment to his costar. He shared, "I was always such a fan of his in 'The Office' and all the work he's done. A great actor." We'll have to wait and see how Wilson plays into her serious side in the vastly different persona.
