Raven-Symone And Candace Cameron Bure Clashed Over A Lesbian Wedding Cake

We turn back the calendar to 2015 as a heated debate took place between Raven-Symone and Candace Cameron Bure. The two discussed an incident that saw a bakery fined $135,000 for refusing to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple. Raven-Symone didn't agree with the gesture while, on the flip side, Candace Cameron Bure didn't think it was an act of discrimination. It caused some obvious tension between the two on the show.

Raven Symone said, "The Oregon law bars businesses from discriminating against sexual orientation, race, disability, age or religion," Symone continues, "and to me, it’s the same exact thing that they did back in the day saying that black people couldn’t do certain things because it's my 'religious belief.'"

Candance Cameron Bure countered, "I don’t think this is discrimination at all. This is about freedom of association," she said. "It's about constitutional rights. It's about First Amendment rights. We do have the right to still choose who we associate with."

"[The bakery] didn't refuse to bake the cake because of [the couple's] sexual orientation," she continued. "In fact, they baked cakes for them previously. They had a problem with the actual ceremony because that — the ceremony — is what conflicted with their religious beliefs. They are saying that they stand for marriage between a man and a woman."

Symone clearly wasn't pleased with Bure's response. She said, "I refuse to associate with you right now." Raven-Symone used lots of eye-rolling during her debate with the child star. It proved to be quite the clash on The View, and one that is worth looking back on.

However, there was one comment that stuck out among the rest. It was a person indicating that the couple that got their cake refused, faced tough times due to the bakery leaking out their personal information.

The person clarifies, "The fine wasn't about not refusing to bake a cake. The fine was for the bakery posting the name, address and phone number of the couple in question. This led to the couple getting death threats against them and their children. They were forced to move because of this and change their phone number. Whether the owners of the bakery were right in denying them service is a completely different story. Besides, they got all that money back and more through a Gofundme campaign."
