Reese Witherspoon Was Embarrassed By Her Arrest In 2013 For Disorderly Conduct

Reese Witherspoon is the darling of Hollywood, therefore, just imagining the actress getting arrested seems like something out of a movie. That was the case back in 2013 after her husband was arrested for a DUI. Given Reese's complaints that were caught on camera, she was also take in for disorderly conduct.

Witherspoon was able to look back at the moment alongside the I Weigh podcast. Witherspoon was praised for the way she reacted to moment, owning up to it.

"I did something really stupid... It was so embarrassing and dumb." She continued, "But you know what? Turns out, I breathe air. I bleed the same way. I make dumb decisions. I make great decisions. I’m just a human being."

Reese would also issue a statement following the arrest, explaining that she clearly was not herself in the moment.

"I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said... It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior."

The arrest came at a tough time as Reese was busy with her career. It caused several adjustments to her schedule, and that included canceling a certain appearance on The Tonight Show.

At the time, Witherspoon was busy with press work, promoting her latest film in 2013, Mud. Following the arrest which took place on the 19th of April, Reese canceled appearances both three and four days later, one of which was an interview alongside Jimmy Fallon with The Tonight Show.

Fallon could've taken advantage of the situation, but he didn't use it as fuel for his monologue on show. However, that didn't hold true for Jimmy Kimmel Live, as the host had some fun with what had taken place.

He said during his show following Reese's arrest, "The police report says she asked the cop 'Do you know my name? You're about to find out who I am.' Does that ever work? 'Do you know who I am?' is second only to 'Do you know who my father is?It's a bad question because the answer is either 'no' — which is embarrassing — or 'yes, and you're going to jail.'"

Despite Kimmel having fun with the moment, there were no hard feelings as Reese appeared on the show multiple times after her arrest, which included a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2023.

Witherspoon got to appear alongside Jimmy Fallon a year later in 2014, this time promoting her film Wild. This time around, Reese was all smiles during the interview, and there was no mention of her past troubles such as the arrest that had taken place which ended up canceling her interview. In the years that followed, Witherspoon made regular appearances on the show.

As for Jimmy Fallon, the late night host has seen better days. Fallon's name is currently surrounded by controversy. Former employees spoke out against the late night host, arguing that his work environment is a toxic one behind the scenes. NBC has supported Fallon, while other employees have also backed him up.

Fallon was very apologetic in his statement. He revealed, “It’s embarrassing and I feel so bad. Sorry if I embarrassed you and your family and friends… I feel so bad I can’t even tell you. I want the show to be fun, [it] should be inclusive to everybody. It should be the best show.”

It remains to be seen if Jimmy can come out of the controversy but without a doubt, the environment behind the scenes will see a major change.
