Recently, on Season 5 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Angie Katsanevas, the third-richest in the cast, roasted Britani Bateman for her "high body count hair." Although it was more of a dig at the latter's not-so-sleek hair, fans can't help but relate it to Britani's chaotic love life.

It's not just her on-and-off relationship with Jared Osmond and getting 10,000 to 15,000 hits on dating apps. The reality TV star also sued her ex-husband, John Scott Underwood for $2.5 million, just two days after their divorce was finalized. The pair were married from 2016 to 2019 and didn't have any children together.

Britani—whose Broadway background was questioned by new housewife, Brownyn Newport—has done a good job at keeping those details private. But here's what we've discovered about her messy split from John following her expensive lawsuit against him.

Recently, Daily Mail obtained court records showing that Britani had sued her ex-husband for $2.5 million, just two days after finalizing their divorce in October 2023. In her filing, the Forever Strong star stated that she endured "severe emotional distress" during her marriage to John, who was "very controlling and abusive" during their relationship.

She added that John required her "to submit to sexual intercourse on demand (sometimes several times a day) and prohibited her from ever complaining about it."

The document listed several more disturbing things that John allegedly ordered Britani to obey throughout their marriage. That included "prohibiting" her "from having frequent contact with her children, family members, and friends" because he "found it unacceptable for Britani to focus her attention on anyone other than him."

Here are other alleged rules by John that Britani had to follow, according to the lawsuit:

  • She had to "avert her eyes from any man in public"
  • She had to "leave love notes for him around the house"
  • He was "dictating what clothing, makeup, perfume, and other beauty products Britani could and could not wear or use, both in and out of his presence"
  • "John's paranoia, anger, insecurity, and abuse cost Britani several million dollars in lost income"
  • "John's harassment was so frequent and pronounced that Britani's daughter's friends stopped coming over to the house"
  • "John routinely yelled at Britani, berating her for not complying with his rules"

In the document, Britani also cited financial abuse. After making an average of $150,000 a year from her production company, John, who was "in debt and receiving food stamps," allegedly forced his wife to sell her business. During their divorce, Britani was also locked out of their finances.

"John siphoned a large amount of profit from the business for his own financial gain," the doc explained, "depriving Britani and other members from their share. Britani would have received $250,000 if John had not siphoned money." She accused him of wanting her to get "nothing" from the divorce despite continuing to work as a realtor.

He went on to accuse her of "slander" and causing "damage" to his professional reputation. As of this writing, It's unclear if the ex-couple had ever settled the messy post-divorce suit.

John's counterclaim described Britani as "self-absorbed, materialistic, denigrating to John, talked down to John, exhibited passive aggressive behaviors toward John, was egocentric, manipulative and always critical of John."

With her "self-esteem... in the toilet," Britani decided to go on dating apps where she had "10,000 hits on Bumble" and "15,000 on Tinder." Even though she "didn't need 10 people on rotation," the roster got out of hand, that she had to "stack them like three dates a night just for efficiency."

A five, a seven, and a nine. When you have 10,000 people, you have to get efficient; I don't have a lot of time. And I kept track of them on a spreadsheet...

Britani was very organized. She had a "list of what I'm looking for — and do they check this box? And then I would narrow it down," she explained. It was a whole cycle. "I was going on a lot of dates, and every time Jared and I would break up I would start the new rotation. I'd get back on the dating sites," she recalled.

During Angie's party on the show, Britani brought Aaron, whom she met on a dating app, with her. Her friend, Heather Gay was happy about it. The Good Time Girl author said Aaron "was a hero walking in" after Britani's crazy spreadsheet of men. Heather added that having Aaron around "felt like family" and that Britani "has great taste in men."
