In the past, we've seen several interviews pop off, including his hilarious fight sequence with Bruce Willis, which certainly ranks among the more memorable.

This specific interview with Ricky Gervais did not classify as a 'feel good' moment on the show. It was quite the debate and clearly, the audience was into it as on platforms like YouTube, the moment is nearing 14 million views.
Ricky Gervais Did Not Like The Way Stephen Colbert Presented His Religion-Related Question
The conversation starts with Stephen Colbert bringing up the fact that Gervais is an atheist, which received a mild applause from the audience.
It started off as an innocent conversation, then suddenly, Gervais popped off at one of Colbert's questions and comparisons.
"Did you want to debate the existence of God? So Ricky Gervais, why is there something instead of nothing," Colbert asked.
"That makes no sense at all," Gervais responded, sparking a lengthy debate between the two sides.
To Gervais and Colbert's credit, they handled themselves with class and poise during the debate, bringing up some interesting points.
"So you believe in one god, I assume. . . . But there are 3,000 to choose from . . . so basically, you believe in—you deny one less god than I do. You don’t believe in 2,999 gods. And I don’t believe in just one more," Gervais mentioned.
"So, this is atheism in a nutshell. You say, 'There’s a god.' I say, 'You can prove that?' You say, 'No.' I say, 'I don’t believe you then," Gervais further stated.
An interesting conversation and one that got a lot of attention from the fanbase.
Fans Reacted Positively To The Debate Between Ricky Gervais And Stephen Colbert
It was not a debate that got out of control, similar to certain scenes we've seen on Real Time With Bill Maher. Instead, it was a conversation between two guys, discussing each other's beliefs.

"You know, that’s how every conversation between an atheist and a believer should be. Coherent, respectful, amicable and in gratitude for the interaction. Well done, gentlemen."
Another fan also praised Colbert for his openness, despite his different beliefs, "Actually impressed and pleased that Stephen acknowledged a point of Ricky’s that he thought was salient. Giving credit where it’s due is a lost art."
"Ricky Gervais actually has a degree in philosophy. He can go toe to toe with anyone in a philosophical debate, and is a fascinating person to listen to on the subject."
Clearly, Gervais had the background to debate such a topic, and it would lead a big amount of interest from fans. Colbert had a blast with the interview, ending of by saying, "Ricky, please come back and debate something else even more important."
