Comedy movies have such a unique way of bringing people together, especially when they are relatable. Any person who has worked customer service, for instance, can probably watch and relate to many aspects of Clerks, which is why the film was able to become a success back in the 90s.

During the 2000s, Ryan Reynolds starred in a film called Waiting, which also featured names like Anna Faris. The movie is hilarious, and much like Clerks, it is incredibly relatable. Long before landing the role in the film, Reynolds actually worked as a busboy.

Let's hear what he had to say about his former profession.

Ryan Reynolds Is A Major Star

At this stage in his career, Ryan Reynolds is someone who has enjoyed the spoils of success for years on end. He has used his unique delivery and natural charisma to his advantage during his time in the entertainment indsutry, and once he became a star, he made sure to make the most of his opportunities on the big screen.

Reynolds initially got some recognition while starring on a television show, but once he hit the big screen with movies like Van Wilder, things really got rolling for the actor. They can't all be winners, but even when missing at the box office, Reynolds has found a way to spin it into comedy gold.

Back before he was the huge star that he is now, Reynolds had appearances in smaller movies, including the hilarious film, Waiting.

He Starred In 'Waiting' In 2005

Back in 2005, Waiting was released, and even though it had a minuscule budget, the movie was able to get its hands on some genuine comedic talent. Names like Ryan Reynolds, Justin Long, Anna Faris, and Alanna Ubach all helped make this film both hilarious and memorable.

One of the best aspects of Waiting was the fact that it was incredibly relatable to anyone who either worked in the food industry or in any type of customer service job.

When talking about the relatability of the movie, Reynolds said, "Anyone that has worked in the restaurant industry, or the hospitality industry for that matter, will definitely relate to some of the aspects of this movie. It's a tough industry and it's a tough job, and they're going to see it in the film."

After making nearly $20 million, Waiting was a certified success, and it certainly seemed like this was a movie that benefitted greatly from being released on DVD at the local Blockbuster Video. The box office numbers really don't do enough to show just how many people watched and loved this movie, though it seems like most people skipped out on watching the film's sequel.

What these fans didn't know at the time was that Reynolds and some other cast members had a background in the food industry.

In an interview with MTV, Ryan Reynolds opened up about his busboy days, and he let people know that the job isn't an easy one.

"I worked as a busboy in real life. I have some calluses that are not just from snacking at the actors' craft service table. The busboys are definitely at the bottom of the food chain. They get fractioned tips, so that's a tough gig to have," said Reynolds.

Reynolds wasn't the only member of the cast who had experience working in a restaurant. Justin Long and Andy Milonakis both had a similar background, which they talked to MTV about.

"I waited tables for about a year; I was terrible at it. The only thing that I could have done to be a worse waiter would be to actually have like peed in front of people, like on them while they were trying to eat. It was at that level," said Long.

"I used to be a real busboy, a real bad busboy. It was a horrible job, it was awful. You are just constantly cleaning stuff up; you don't get to bring out big plates of nice food. You get to take it away when it's all chewed up by some idiot," shared Milonakis.

Thankfully, these actors simply had to play members of the staff in Waiting, and their background in the industry lent a helping hand to their performances. While Waiting was not a massive hit at the box office, it seemed like virtually everyone saw this movie at least once, especially if they worked in the food industry.
