Prior to his time on Hot Ones, Sean Evans had a completely different reality as a copywriter. Suddenly, things changed as Evans found himself interviewing the likes of Guy Fieri. Although watching the guests eat wings tends to be entertaining in itself, the questions during the show makes everything that much better, in large part, thanks to Evans' ability as a host.
Not only is Evans asking the questions, but he's also taking part in the wings challenge. Given his lengthy history with the wings, we're going to find out if Evans faced health complications along the way. In addition, we're going to reveal if he avoids spicy foods when he's off-camera, and which guests on the show suffered after their experience with the wings of death.
Sean Evans Admits He Avoids Spicy Foods When He's Off The Set Of Hot Ones
It only makes sense that Sean Evans is careful with his choice of foods when he's not on the set of Hot Ones. According to Evans alongside People, he is very careful of his nutritional choices. Evans takes a break from spicy foods, and he'll instead opt for salads and juices.
"When it comes to spicy food, because of the show, it makes me take care of myself a little bit more outside of that show," Evans reveals. "So a lot of salads, a lot of juice [and] a lot of cereal when I'm not doing it. We've been doing this now for like, seven years, couple hundred episodes. So when I'm off the clock, keep the TUMS handy and try to avoid the super spicy stuff."
As for his feelings towards spicy foods, Evans revealed that he isn't bothered by much, and usually knows what to expect.
"I know what to expect. So somebody's had the curry here [at Brick Lane Curry House], eaten two Carolina Reapers, done the show for seven years — like, nothing really takes me by surprise," he continues. "When I eat a super hot [dish], I know exactly, physiologically, what's going to happen."
Given his history with spicy wings and constantly taking on hot foods, fans are wondering if the host ever faced health complications. In truth, Evans did take a break from the series following a scary event (unrelated to the wings).
Sean Evans Once 'Violently Fainted' And Took A Pause From Hot Ones
Back in 2020, Sean Evans was forced to shut down the production of Hot Ones. According to Us Magazine, the host faced a scary situation fainting and feeling ill.
Us Magazine detailed at the time, "Though the Illinois native didn’t disclose whether or not he was diagnosed with the virus, he did explain that a physician advised him to rest and hydrate."
"The latter activity, he noted made him urinate frequently and when he got up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night on one occasion, he felt his “blood pressure drop” and blood rush out of his head. After seeing “black and red spots,” Evans recalled “violently” crashing to the ground. As he put it, “For the first time in my life, I fainted.”
Things would get worse for Evans later on, as the Hot Ones host fainted for a second time, though this time things were that much worse given that his chin hit the edge of a coffee table. It was a scary incident for Evans, and he wasn't quite sure of his status at the time.
Thankfully, the host was able to make a full recovery and return to the show. He hasn't faced any noticeable issues since, at least in terms of what has been reported.
A Few Celebs Faced Complications After Their Time With Sean Evans On Hot Ones
Gordon Ramsay wasn't wrong when he sprayed host Sean Evans with Pepto-Bismol during his second stint on the show. Ramsay's cameo turned into a smash hit for the show, and it remains the most-watched video on the channel.
Gordon was able to survive the wings, but others struggled mightily after the show. That includes Chrissy Teigen, who checked into the hospital after taking on the wings.
She revealed on The Tonight Show, "I had just done Hot Ones and I had to go to the doctor after – the hospital, as people call it," Teigen explained. "It was bad, the seventh one really got me."
"I had to go to the hospital, and then my tongue was stripped, they said," Teigen told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. "I don't even know what that means. It was, like, bloody and stripped and I had acid reflux for a long time."
Fans might've predicted Chrissy's struggles following the episode given how aggressive the guest was with the pouring of certain hot sauces. Although she showed great courage during her time on the show, she faced some serious struggles afterward.
