When Emily Ratajkowski announced her marriage to Sebastian Bear-McClard, fans were stunned. Hardly anyone knew who he was, let alone what he did for a living, and it seemed downright crazy that Emrata would marry some guy she'd only dated for two weeks.

But like any other relationship in Hollywood, there's more to Sebastian and Emily's story than a quickie wedding and happily ever after (so far, at least!).

The two wed in 2018, and it's been smooth sailing ever since, even as fans clamored to learn more about Sebastian and worried over Emily's decision-making skills (among other things). Despite the criticism, the two are still going strong, and there's actually a very good reason why Emily Ratajkowski married Sebastian Bear-McClard after only a few weeks of seriously dating.

Emily Ratajkowski And Sebastian Bear McClard Had Mutual Friends

The story of how Emily and Sebastian Bear McClard met starts with their group of mutual friends. Though everyone gawked at the newlyweds for a while, sources were quick to confirm that the pair knew one another for a matter of years before they got married.

Still, their dating timeline was distinctly short; Emily admitted that the two dated for a very brief time. Most sources say it was a few weeks, and definitely less than a month. And it turns out Emily was dating someone else before she and Sebastian connected on a deeper level.

Emily And Sebastian Were 'Just Friends' For Years

While their wedding was a surprise to a lot of fans, people who actually know Emily and Sebastian in real life weren't as shocked. It turned out that the pair were friends for years, even through Emily's prior (and seemingly serious) relationship, which lasted a matter of years.

But lest fans think their quickie wedding was the result of some fairytale-like falling-in-love montage, that's not exactly what happened. Though it's assumed Emily Ratajkowski's new book will shed some light on her relationship with Sebastian Bear-McClard, it's already come out that Emily had a thing for her now-hubby from day one.

Emily Knew Sebastian Bear-McClard Was The One

In an interview after her wedding, Emily thought it was funny that people assumed she and Sebastian had suddenly fallen in love after being friends for so long. In fact, she clarified that "women always know," and that she had never truly felt platonic with Sebastian.

What's more, she stated that she "always" told herself, "Okay, probably shouldn't hang out with that guy alone." No word on whether she was dating her former beau at that point, but the way she phrased the admission seems to suggest that's the case.

So once Emily was finally single, it seemed like all Sebastian had to do was slide on into the opening.

Sebastian Says His Wife 'Vetted' Him For Years

Though Emrata joked that the courthouse wedding was a surprise to her too, as if suddenly she was whisked away becoming someone's wife, she clearly has a good sense of humor about the whole thing -- and is up-front about the fact that it was totally meant to be.

She also joked that Sebastian Bear-McClard likes to say that despite what people think about Ratajkowski's judgment, she "vetted" him for two years beforehand. So, the story seems to go, when the timing was right -- and Sebastian planned his proposal -- it all fell into place.

Emily Almost Said No To The Proposal

Despite the fact that people think Emily was in a hurry to get married, she almost said no to Sebastian at first. She told W Magazine that she, at first, said "mmm, nah" when Sebastian popped the question. Why? Because he didn't have a ring!

But the actor-producer thought quickly and fashioned a makeshift ring out of an actual paperclip, something Emily thought was actually adorable. Although the fact that he was so unprepared might have had fans tsk-tsking even more over the speedy wedding that came next.

A true gemstone followed (two, in fact, on a gold band), but the paperclip is what sealed the deal. Which kind of alludes to the sort of relationship Emily and her husband seem to have. They're obviously committed, they've since welcomed a child together, and it's assumed that Emrata has her husband's support when it comes to the release of her memoir, too.

By all accounts, their fast-tracked 2018 wedding was just the start of something beautiful between the pair, though only time will truly tell whether it's a perfect match.
