It takes one comment or question to completely derail an interview. Just ask Russell Brand about his time on 'Morning Joe', the interview went completely off the rails when the interviewer stated that she did not know who he was...

As we'll reveal, this 2013 interview spiraled when Justin Bieber's name was brought up, despite the fact that Selena Gomez took the interview to promote her latest album.

It seems like the interviewer Dean Richards had a different agenda, though Gomez's team didn't want to know anything about it, cutting the feed.

Let's take a look back.

Selena Gomez Had A Hard Time Discussing Her Breakup From Justin Bieber

Breakups aren't easy and that's especially true when your life is thrust into the spotlight, mixed in with a younger age. That happened to be the case for Selena Gomez, as her personal life and split alongside Justin Bieber was all over the headlines.

Gomez had a tough time following the split, while Justin would also admit he would've done things differently looking back.

“In my previous relationship, I went off and just went crazy and went wild, just was being reckless,” he said, referring to his past with Gomez. “This time, I took the time to really build myself and focus on me, and try to make the right decisions and all that sort of stuff. And yeah, I got better.”

Gomez would admit that she underwent emotional abuse from the relationship, something she began to understand during her older years.

"I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and I’ve found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible.”

Gomez did admit alongside Daily Mail that she still has trust issues from the relationship. Nonetheless, she has moved on from this moment, which took place way back in 2013.

The Interview Soured When WGN-TV Host Dean Richards Brought Up Justin Bieber's Name To Selena Gomez

Thankfully for Selena, bailing on this interview was a lot easier, given that she wasn't there live. During the interview, things went completely south when the host Dean Richards brought up the sensitive subject of Justin Bieber.

“Is there something about him that we don’t get or we don’t understand? I mean, there is one story after another of, you know, pretty outrageous behavior that we’re reading about.”

Selena looked on completely uncomfortable, turning red in the face. There was a slight pause and a moment to change the tune, but the interviewer kept on.

“What don’t we get about him or what is it that he’s not getting out there?”

Before Selena even had a chance to answer, the feed went completely black, with Dean Richards smirking, knowing that the interview had gone completely wrong because of the question. In all likelihood, Selena's team in the background of the interview were not happy with the context and questioning, deciding to exit and pull the plug on it altogether.

Fans had a lot to say about the moment and for the most part, they applauded Gomez and her team's reaction to the question.

Fans Applauded Selena Gomez For Leaving The Interview

In truth, it really didn't seem like the decision was Selena's, as she really didn't make any type of gesture that suggested they cut the feed. Nonetheless, fans praised the decision on platforms like YouTube.

"I don't think she cut it herself, it didn't look like she told anyone to cut the interview. She looked very uncomfortable and her publicist must've sensed it and cut the interview. I don't think it was her fault."

"I love her. YES the reporter was out of line for asking THAT particular question about Justin, he wasn't even asking about Her & Justin or their relationship he was scooping for gossip about Justin which is NOT what an interview to promote Selena's new album is about."

"If you listen closely, you can hear someone say "we're gonna have to cut this" before it goes off. And even if she did cut it off, she had every right. would you want someone asking about your personal life?!?"

Most would agree, Gomez made the correct call for reacting the way she did, especially given that she took on the interview to promote an album.
