Selling Sunset Season 8 just dropped in its entirety, and there is so much going on with the real estate "docusoap."
Season 7 of Selling Sunset aired in November, and fans eagerly anticipated the eighth season, which hit Netflix—where it airs exclusively—last night.
Reality TV shows (like Love Island, also a reality/streaming hit) have largely bucked the streaming-centric "binge" model of distribution, with Selling Sunset a notable exception.
All 11 episodes of Selling Sunset Season 8 hit the streamer at once, and viewers are desperately trying to get through the season and discuss its ins and outs.
The morning after the season dropped, there were a few things Selling Sunset fans couldn't stop talking about, though, early standout elements of the latest season.
Selling Sunset Season 8: Short Skirts, Screenshots, And Social Media Spats
Selling Sunset's unusual distribution pattern as a reality television show has its pros and cons.
Fans don't have to wait after a cliffhanger to see what happens next—but by the same token, they aren't analyzing each of Selling Sunset's 11 episodes at a rate of one per week.
As such, a few things stand out across the season, with smaller bits of intrigue moving to the forefront later.
Right after Selling Sunset Season 8 dropped, a few things emerged as major points of discussion, with some of them occurring just before the finale.
Short Skirts, And Selling Sunset Realtors' Attire
The morning after Season 8 went live, fans had a lot of opinions about the realtors of Selling Sunset's clothing choices.
In particular, Chelsea Lazkani's short skirt/skort was a big topic of discussion, with one fan questioning whether any of the cast members dressed "professionally":
"I love [Chelsea] but for real her dress code that day was toooo much, it did not come across as professional. Yes she had a blazer on but where are the pants!
"Mary was not wrong or right for going to the managers to complain. If she was friendly with Chelsea, she would have pulled her aside but because they are at odds now ... Dress code needs to be addressed for sure."
Another opined that the "dress code" was one thing, but it wasn't the only issue:
"Yeah, I don't mind Chelsea and like her for the most part, but that was too much for a broker's open. And she was an hour late to her own co listing on top of that."
Separately, Nicole's confusing silver tinsel ensemble was a massive point of interest.
Fan feedback wasn't all critical though—Selling Sunset newbie Alanna Gold was dubbed "the only one who dresses like a true professional."
Screenshots Of Text Arguments
Another thing Selling Sunset fans could not get over in Season 8 were screenshots of a text argument between Nicole Young, Chelsea, and Bre Tiese:
In the circulating screenshot, Selling Sunset's Nicole Young sent a lengthy text to a group chat.
It's not clear how many of the Selling Sunset cast members were on the same text chain, and Nicole's super-sized text takes up most of the screenshot.
Right under it, Chelsea asks to be taken out of the group chat, and Bre replies: "SAME LMAO."
Suspiciously Timed Social Media Spats
Selling Sunset fans were treated to an outbreak of cast infighting and drama just before Season 8 dropped ... and some of them suspect the conflict was stoked by the cast and producers to drive ratings.
That's not uncommon with reality TV, and by far, the most popular Selling Sunset post on the show's subreddit after Season 8 dropped was a screenshot of Chelsea's Instagram Story — a cast photo with Nicole and Bre crossed out:
It came at the end of a week of Selling Sunset cast members arguing on social media, although Chelsea's post really struck a chord with fans.
Back on Sept. 3, as drama raged among the cast on platforms like Instagram, one Selling Sunset fan said it felt a bit contrived, writing:
"I’m not saying the drama isn’t real but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that RIGHT before the newest season drops, there’s suddenly all this drama. And the drama is SO PUBLIC. I feel like on some level, they’re giving this season some clout [because] their real estate listings depend on the clout they receive on this show.
"While I hate Nicole and believe she creates [social media] drama, [I think] the social media story posts and direct captions (cough chelsea) are mainly to give the season clout.
"The producers LOVE to get clout no matter how dirty it’s done. I think something fishy is going on here.✌️ (PS still hate Nicole and love the Chelsea Emma Chrishell) trio[.]"
However, the plot thickened—another user posited that the drama outbreak was a result of cast screenings of Selling Sunset, and an ensuing need to get ahead of production edits:
"So I think you’re missing a piece here, the reason the fight started is because Chrishell and the rest of the cast were just given access to the final cut.
"Before this week they only knew what they filmed and reality tv producers are infamous for chopping & screwing situations to craft narratives. While yes, it could be a ploy for views more realistically Chrishell and the cast are reacting to seeing their narratives [after editing] for the first time."
Of course, Selling Sunset fans have a whole 11 episodes to dissect and examine in Season 8—Selling Sunset Season 9 has yet to be formally ordered—and they're just getting started on the new episodes.
