Summary

  • Seth Meyers has not had Beyoncé on his talk show due to a disappointing, awkward first meeting at an SNL party.
  • Beyoncé may avoid interviews altogether, as she stopped appearing in interviews since 2015 for privacy reasons.
  • Beyoncé's preference for privacy may stem from discomfort with invasive questions during past interviews, leading to silence.

Seth Meyers has the privilege of being a Late Night host, interviewing A-list celebrities and the like, which is literally his job. While the talk show host regrets some things back in his days on SNL — like Meyers not helping Taylor Swift with her monologue during her first appearance on SNL — Late Night with Seth Meyers has impressively built its guest list, helping Seth Meyers meet different people. While he has had many guests come over and over, there are still some celebrities that Seth Meyers has not had on his show.

Unfortunately, Seth Meyers has not had Beyoncé on his Late Night with Seth Meyers before. This doesn’t mean he has never met Queen Bey, but based on Seth’s recount of his first meeting, there may be a reason Beyoncé has not appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers as a guest. Meyers' first meeting with Beyoncé turned out to be disappointing and awkward. However, Beyoncé hasn't appeared on any talk shows since 2015.

Seth Meyers Awkward First Meeting With Beyoncé May Have Prevented Her From Appearing On His Show

Meyers didn't know what to say other than "cool party" when he bumped into Beyoncé at SNL's 40th Anniversary after-party

It was at the 40th Saturday Night Live Anniversary after-party when Seth Meyers met Beyoncé for the first time. Only, it did not go down well for the talk show host. Speaking frankly of the awkward moment with Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Seth Meyers described his brief encounter with Beyoncé.

Recounting what happened at the iconic star-studded party, Meyers said: "I remember my wife and I were weaving through the crowd. Right as Prince was on stage. And it's very strange, you never think of famous people going like this, 'Excuse me, excuse me.' It was so densely packed," Meyers recalled.

"I was doing 'the excuse me' and then just came like, you know, my face came like this close to Beyoncé and our eyes met, and I just was like, 'Pretty cool party, right?' And she said, 'Yeah.' And then we just kept going, like the momentum took us away. And my wife said, 'Wow, you really killed that interaction. You better leave your ringer on, because you can get a call from Beyoncé.'"

"I dunno if you heard, I was like 'Pretty cool party, right?' And then she was like, 'Yeah.' And like, it went pretty good," Seth Meyer recounted.

The hectic and lively party must have added to the tension of meeting Beyoncé because Meyers did not handle that very well.

It's safe to say that Meyers did not get a call from Beyoncé, and may have since then, because she hasn't appeared on his Late Night with Seth Meyers before.

No one can fault Meyers for the disappointing first meeting, and Beyoncé not being on his show may be because of other reasons than their awkward first meeting.

Seth Meyers Once Made A Comedy Skit At Beyoncé's Expense

Meyers hopped on the "revolution" happening because of Beyoncé's "Lemonade" album

Seth Meyers may be getting the cold shoulder from Beyoncé not only because of their awkward meeting. The fact that Meyers made a skit poking fun at the 'aftermath' of Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade can be considered, but it's based on speculation.

Meyers’ sketch on the Late Show had his female staff acting 'empowered' thanks to the album, and (in better words) putting the male staff in very uncomfortable situations. This was to fit the trend Beyoncé's album had on people and the "emancipation" it revolutionized.

This was for the humor at the expense of Beyoncé, but it may look targeted at the "Hold Up" singer.

Moreover, Beyoncé has appeared on other talk shows before. She appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Ellen DeGeneres, and The Late Show With David Letterman before he retired.

Their meeting may have given the impression they may not have had the best time, and that may just be 'Seth Meyers being Seth Meyers.'

The comedian isn't new to awkward run-ins with celebrities. Meyers once recalled his meeting with music legend Bruce Springsteen, and it was nothing but awkward.

"I walked over, and I did that thing where I’m like, 'Hey, I just want to say I’m a huge fan,'" Meyers said. "And of course, he’s heard it before. It’s not like I’m the first guy with the nerve to tell him. But he’s so gracious, and I remember he was like, 'Oh, thanks, Man. How’s the show gonna be this week?'

"And I’m just like, 'Oh, all right, I’ll see ya!' I’m like, 'I’m not ready to have a conversation. I did the thing I was here to do. If you want to know how the show’s going to be — ask somebody else.'"

Meyers does realize he can get nerdy around celebrities, but it seems it's just part of who he is.

Beyoncé Stopped Appearing In Interviews

Seth Meyers isn't the only talk show host Beyoncé has ignored

The disappointing meeting between Seth Meyers and Beyoncé may have nothing to do with her not appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Beyoncé has stopped appearing in interviews since 2015.

Beyoncé falls under the category of celebrities who rarely give interviews, and prefer to maintain an air of enigma. However, the primary reason Beyoncé refuses to be interviewed may be because of the invasive questions she gets asked.

Many times Beyoncé has felt uncomfortable with questions asked in her interviews, like the bizarre interview Beyoncé had with Tyra Banks in 2008.

Then there was the awkward interaction between Ellen Degeneres and Beyoncé that could be one of the reasons she rarely accepts interviews. Or when Beyoncé refused to talk about Jay-Z with Oprah, opting to keep her life private.

Beyoncé prefers to release personal essays and documentaries rather than appear in interviews, keeping her life closed off and only accessible through her music. With her heightened celebrity status, she can refuse to appear on talk shows or live programs, and it wouldn’t hurt her fame.

Beyoncé’s silence can only fuel more speculation about why she no longer appears on talk shows. Unfortunately, Seth Meyers may not have the opportunity (yet) to sit down with Queen Bey and correct the awkward meeting they had.
