Jim Parsons starred on all 12 seasons of the beloved CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory as fan-favorite Sheldon Cooper. The character even earned a spin-off show, the incredibly popular Young Sheldon, based on the character's experiences growing up in Texas. Parsons was an executive producer on the spin-off, narrated the show and made an appearance on Young Sheldon along with Mayim Bialik. The star has also discussed the possibility of a TBBT reboot.
Reportedly, Parsons is partly the reason The Big Bang Theory ended. Johnny Galecki admitted his co-star could have handled his departure differently. The series featured plenty of celebrity guest stars and memorable moments, although certain moments on the show feature the characters at their worst. Fans on Reddit agreed on Sheldon's worst TBBT moment.
Fans On Reddit Called Sheldon's Parking Lot Behavior His Worst Moment On TBBT
It's hard to imagine Sheldon Cooper being played by anyone other than Jim Parsons. One former teen star was traumatized after auditioning for Sheldon with Jim Parsons, knowing that's who would get the part. Fans of The Big Bang Theory went on Reddit to discuss the characters' worst moments from the series.
Many fans agree on Sheldon's worst TBBT moment - seen in season six, episode nine, The Parking Spot Escalation. In the episode, Sheldon finds out that, because he doesn't have a car and doesn't drive, his "perfect" parking space at the university was given to Howard Wolowitz. It appears one of the main reasons this moment was chosen above the others, is because of how much Howard and Sheldon's feud escalated over a small issue, and Sheldon couldn't drive anyway.
One fan wrote, "Sheldon: Fighting Howard about the parking spot he didn't even use. Talk about entitlement." This user's comment received 157 upvotes. "The parking spot episode is so hard to watch, Sheldon is such a brat in it," agreed another, who received 57 upvotes.
One user defended Sheldon's response during the parking space incident. "Well, how would you feel if your boss just reassigned your parking place to your coworker cause he is better and not telling you jacks*** about it or asking if thats fine with you?" Another explained, "If I'm not using it like he wasn't and it's being reassigned to a friend I probably wouldn't care."
Another fan added another of Sheldon's worst moments.
"The car parking space episode and running off when Penny and Leonard moved in and being a third wheel." Other viewers remembered different times when Sheldon was at his worst. One recalled, "Sheldon, completely dismissing Penny when he found out she was pregnant." "Making Leonard suffer with that d*** red sweater," added another fan.
One fan felt that "In reality, Sheldon would have no friends as he is intolerable." Another disagreed and added, "I would be friends with Sheldon irl. He would be exhausting, but he would also be a great person to have around."
Jim Parsons Discussed What Sheldon Cooper Was Really Like
Celebrities starring on TV shows and/or in films find ways to connect with the character they're playing, in order to understand their character's motivations, actions, etc. Some actors take method acting to the extreme, refusing to break character even when they aren't filming.
During an interview with Fresh Air's David Bianculli, Jim Parsons said about his Big Bang Theory co-stars, per NPR, "I know all of us are so fond of the characters we play. And I think that's one of the major keys to this show working". He also discussed understanding Sheldon's personality.
"I think there is something I understand about [Sheldon's] lack of understanding about what it is that other people want to hear. What is it that they want me to answer?"
The Boys in the Band actor remarked that his character didn't always consider the feelings of others.
"I think for Sheldon, it's different. He's more obtuse than I. He's not even thinking that far into like 'Oh dear, I don't want to hurt their feelings.' In fact that's one of the keys to him as a character. He says things all the time that could hurt someone's feelings. He doesn't check it through a filter and go, 'Oh, they'll be fine with this.' He skips that barrier completely. He just says it."
Jim Parsons Opened Up About Returning To 'The Big Bang Theory'
In recent years, several shows have returned and/or been rebooted. Some examples include, Frasier, the Sex and the City reboot: And Just Like That..., and the Full House reboot: Fuller House. While at the Drama League Awards, Jim Parsons spoke with E! News about the possibility of reprising his role as Sheldon Cooper in a reboot or sequel series/film to The Big Bang Theory.
The Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile actor revealed he would only play Sheldon again after his "reincarnation", and viewers would have to wait until "the next lifetime" to see Parsons as Sheldon again. He added, "Look, never say never to anything. Life is long, God willing. But I don't think so." He appeared as Sheldon in a cameo for Young Sheldon, which he narrated. Mayim Bialik also reprised her role as Amy Farrah Fowler.
Parsons revealed how he felt returning to his TBBT character for the first time since the show concluded in 2019 for the Young Sheldon finale. "It was very, very special to do that. The feeling today is kind of odd, you know? It's the second time now, because when we ended The Big Bang Theory, it felt like this, too. A little bit different. You shoot that final episode and it's wrapped for you."
On TBBT, fans can find several examples of Sheldon and other characters at their worst. As much as fans would love to see the cast get together for just one more episode (or even a movie?), Parsons isn't interested in returning to the character. He and the other cast members have moved on to doing other things.
