It wasn't all fun for Helberg, who revealed fans would typically approach him, saying how much they disliked The Big Bang Theory. Not only that, but Simon wasn't always onboard with the things Howard did on the show.

We'll take a look back at how things changed for Helberg once Melissa Rauch entered the series. In truth, Rauch getting on the show was a long shot, especially given her circumstances when the audition came around.

Melissa Rauch Wasn't In The Best Place When She Got Cast On The Big Bang Theory

It was a different time for Melissa Rauch, prior to her journey on The Big Bang Theory. Alongside The Hollywood Reporter, Rauch revealed that she had just filed for unemployment, while attending a seminar, encouraging her to find work.

She recalls, "I was a fan of the show when I got the audition. That week, I had been at the unemployment office to get my unemployment check. I had to go to this seminar about how to get a job. It was awful. It was a dark week! (Laughing.)"

Being a fan of the series, Rauch was instantly excited when she received the email about an audition. However, the actress revealed, getting the role wasn't easy, with lots of competition.

"I was excited and psyched myself out thinking there was no way. There were a ton of girls at the audition. When they brought me in a second time for all the producers, they'd narrowed it down to six of us."

Rauch ended up booking the role, and it was truly a dream come true for the sitcom star. Not only did it change her career, but it also changed the trajectory of Simon Helberg's character on TBBT.

Simon Helberg Wasn't The Biggest Fan Of Howard Prior To Bernadette Entering The Show

Looking back at Howard on The Big Bang Theory, we have reason to believe that the character wouldn't fly in today's world. Simon Helberg agrees, looking back at his role on the series, the actor was constantly told about his role on the show and how it was pushing the envelope.

Helberg admits to feeling lots of relief once Bernadette came around. He said, "People were very unhappy with some of the things Howard would do or say, and I was like, ‘Yeah, I agree,'” he says. “I didn’t necessarily think that meant the character should be removed, but it certainly was more fun to play him as his heart got bigger and he shed his layer of sleaze…."

Helberg would further reveal that he enjoyed the fact that Howard grew up on the show, moving away from his immaturity with women.

"The fact that you don’t have to search too hard to find a handful of qualities and jokes from our show that didn’t age well, to me is a good sign that we’re growing up as a culture in some ways now.”

Melissa Rauch And Simon Helberg Had A Blast Working Together On The Big Bang Theory

Helberg had his best memories working alongside Melissa Rauch. He told News Week, "I always really had a great time working with Melissa [Rauch]."

The actor added, "Whenever we had some juicy storylines, like when she finds out that she's pregnant. I really enjoyed that," Helberg said.

Rauch was also a big fan of getting to work alongside Simon Helberg, while really enjoying the process of how Bernadette was able to find her voice during the series.

“I think the best part of playing Bernadette has been how we’ve had the ability to let the character evolve over time,” she told the outlet. “Over the years, she's sort of found her big-girl voice.”

Rauch and Helberg clearly thrived together during their time on the series.
