He revealed, "Well, mostly it’s just intensely wrong! [Laughs] I used to describe it as Mick Jagger-meets-Mr. Furley and I think that’s still pretty much true today, though perhaps he has toned it down a bit. This is definitely a characteristic of Howard that I’m keen to keep firmly within the confines of the show—I’m not a fan of tight leather pants!"

Helberg would go on to admit that he didn't have a hard time shutting off the Howard character when he was done shooting on The Big Bang Theory.

"Thankfully, not too much! But there are definitely occasions when I find myself engaging in some “Howardisms.” Like when I’m sitting around playing board games, eating takeout and making sarcastic comments … And then I’m like, “Hey, this isn’t meant to be happening, I’m meant to be cooler than that guy!”

Not only did Helberg have an easy time shutting off the character, but he also wasted no time taking on different roles.

Appearing in a musical drama seemed unlikely for Simon Helberg after The Big Bang Theory, but that's the exact path he took, taking on the prestigious role alongside Adam Driver. Speaking with Indie Wire, Helberg revealed that details for the project were kept quiet at first.

“I didn’t really even read a script for a while, because it was under lock and key and everything about the whole project was very cryptic. Of course, once I read it, I was completely fascinated. It’s hard to even really draw any comparison between ‘Annette’ and other films. I’m all about having an experience, and this seemed like a pretty good one to risk my life and liberty for.”

Helberg would go on to admit that preparing for the role took some complex detours along the way.

“I went into this sort of rabbit hole of the technique, the style, the aesthetic, and kind of the psychology of conductors. In the script, you just get lyrics and ‘He conducts’ as the stage direction. There’s not any indication about emotion or other action. ‘He conducts.’ Which is very easy to write and very hard to do.”

It all worked out for Helberg who received lots of praise for his role in the film.
