Saturday Night Live has been entertaining fans since 1975. Their reputation is such a strong one that the show has permanently been etched in history as being among the most critical influencers of pop culture.
Millions of viewers regularly tune in to see their celebrity guests, hosts, and musical performers, without fail. Being in the business of comedy is a really difficult task, especially right now, considering the current state of our affairs. Somehow, this show always manages to pull it off, offering fans the greatest escape from reality that anyone could ever ask for... laughter.
Some hosts did it better than others over the years. Let's take a look...
15 Sweetheart Host: Justin Timberlake Has Great Chemistry With The Cast
Justin Timberlake commands the audience and fits right in with the cast and crew of Saturday Night Live. He has such natural chemistry with those involved in the production of the show and seem to mesh perfectly with the type of humor that SNL portrays. He fits so perfectly with the scope of the show that he has returned repeatedly, and has been attached to some of the most classic sketches.
14 Jerk Host: Paris Hilton Was "Not So Hot"
Paris Hilton draws a crowd each time she leaves her home, so it came as no surprise that the folks at SNL wanted to put her in the spotlight as the host of their show. Sadly. her time on set was "not so hot", and fell short of being anything other than a backdrop for her to appear in front of. She was bland and not at all well suited to be the hostess of this show.
13 Jerk Host: Lindsay Lohan Couldn't Keep Herself Together
Is it really so surprising to hear that Lindsay Lohan couldn't pull it together as the host of Saturday Night Live? She made 4 attempts at hosting this show, each time becoming progressively worse than the last. During her last appearance she basically stood there and became the butt of the jokes about her personal life. She was described as being "a trainwreck" during her time on the stage.
12 Jerk Host: Katy Perry Doesn't Have A Funny Bone In Her Body
It's true what they say, those immersed in the world of music tend not to have a successful stint at hosting SNL. This was definitely the case for Katy Perry. The songstress didn't have a funny bone in her body. She bombed so bad that her then-husband Russell Brand was even upset about it. She wasn't at all powerful in her execution of humor.
11 Sweetheart Host: Steve Martin, Hilarious Honorary Cast Member
Steve Martin has very much become an honorary member on this show. He definitely "brings the funny" each time he takes the stage of SNL. He's hosted this show more times than anyone can count, each time garnering more attention as being the perfect host. The Washington Post tells us that Martin and Baldwin are in a virtual head-to-head battle to see who has appeared more often and who is the bigger fan favorite!
10 Jerk Host: Steven Seagal Refused To Do Skits
Steven Seagal is incredible at so many things. Sadly, hosting SNL is not one of them! He angered virtually everyone on set during his time on the show. He even managed to crawl under the skin of those who worked behind the scenes of Saturday Night Live. Just before airing the episode that he hosted, the network contemplated just nixing him altogether. It was that bad!
9 Jerk Host: Justin Bieber Was High Maintenance
Justin Bieber was just a young lad when he took the stage at SNL as their underaged host. Hindsight is 20/20 and perhaps that wasn't the best move for the young star. He ended up coming to the set with an entourage of 20+ people that kept him glammed and fulfilled his every request. Bieber was way out of his element and comfort zone as the host of this show, and that was all-too visible.
8 Jerk Host: Tom Green Grossed Everyone Out, Stole The "Funny"
Tom Green has a way of weirding people out with his behavior. This rang true when he attempted to host SNL. He and Will Ferrell pretended to be baby birds regurgitating in one another's mouths- need we say anything further? He crossed the line and there was no going back.
7 Sweetheart Host: John Goodman, The Master Impersonator
If we could present an award to the man who does the best impersonations, it would definitely be given to John Goodman. He takes on any and every role presented to him with wild success, and ratings were through the roof each time he hosted SNL. The only question we have is "is he better as a host or a guest?" Either way, fans just can't get enough!
6 Jerk Host: Lance Armstrong Was Selfish And Rude
Apparently, Lance Armstrong misunderstood his role on SNL. He seemed to perceive this as his personal forum to air his dirty laundry and poke at his fiance at the time - Sheryl Crow. He hosted SNL in 2005 and never returned again after that. His skits were so "unfunny" and he had such a dry sense of humor that none of his "comedic" moments were executed effectively. He failed to connect with the audience.
