MrBeast has officially addressed an ongoing controversy involving Ava Kris Tyson, a longtime collaborator who recently stepped down from the channel.
Who is Ava Kris Tyson? MrBeast's close friend, former roommate, and frequent co-host.
In June, MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson) took the unusual-for-him step of vocally defending Ava, after the dangerous social media account known as @LibsOfTikTok began directing harassment at her.
At the same time, a scandal involving fellow YouTuber Cody Ko was slowly approaching a tipping point, culminating with a viral video by D'Angelo Wallace recapping the controversy in mid-July.
More broadly, the stage was set for a perfect storm involving MrBeast and Ava, and the former has long dominated YouTube as the "biggest channel."
YouTubers became hungry for "drama channel" content, Cody Ko videos were lucrative and plentiful, and days before the Cody situation tipped, MrBeast had just hit a new milestone with his subscriber count — becoming the first channel to hit 300 million subscribers.
MrBeast's Tweet And More Fallout
As we previously reported, Ava Kris Tyson issued a statement via Twitter/X on July 23, resigning from MrBeast's channel.
In a statement on the same day, Ava added:
"I don't want these accusations to impact the hundreds of people who work at MrBeast, which is why I have stepped away."
At the same time, additional allegations and rumors began to fly; as was the case with Cody Ko, searches for MrBeast's "live sub count" and his SocialBlade stats skyrocketed.
However, with over 300 million subscribers, MrBeast's SocialBlade page and subscriber count showed no indication of a subscriber exodus in the midst of the scandal — and several users on Reddit's r/youtubedrama said the entire thing felt like an excuse to attack Ava.
Social media users desperately sought additional allegations to levy at MrBeast, including an effort to suggest he inappropriately discussed Bhad Bhabie (Danielle Bregoli) several years ago:
On the night of July 24, MrBeast tweeted, addressing the controversy and his handling of it.
His tweet began with a statement on the allegations against Ava:
"Over the last few days, I’ve become aware of the serious allegations of Ava Tyson's behavior online and I am disgusted and opposed to such unacceptable acts."
He continued, asserting that he sought to hire "an independent third party" to investigate the rumors, explaining:
"During that time, I have been focused on hiring an independent third party to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure I have all the facts.
"That said, I’ve seen enough online and taken immediate action to remove Ava from the company, my channel, and any association with MrBeast.
"I do not condone or support any of the inappropriate actions. I will allow the independent investigators the necessary time to conduct a comprehensive investigation and will take any further actions based on their findings."
MrBeast's tweet was quickly shared to Reddit's r/MrBeast, where users acknowledged his uncomfortable position, caught between one of his oldest and closest friends and an online hate mob:
"[Jimmy/MrBeast and Ava have] been friends for a long time but you have to save face[.]"
On Twitter, many commenters in the replies to Jimmy's tweet were hostile, and one said:
We warned you ... You didn't listen. You deserve to be canceled.
MrBeast's tweet is his most recent statement on the controversy targeting Ava, and he hasn't specific where his company is in the process of investigating the claims.
