Sophia Bush is one veteran actress whose Hollywood career spans an impressive two decades. Over the years, she’s done a lot of incredible TV work.
And while she may be best remembered for her time in the teen drama One Tree Hill, it is worth pointing out that Bush has made her mark in feature films too.
Not to mention, she has long proved that she’s versatile when it comes to genre, taking on teen drama, horror, rom-com, action, and crime with equal passion.
At the moment, Bush stars as the titular character in the new CBS medical drama Good Sam. It’s certainly a testament to how far the actress has come since she started out in the early 2000s.
Not to mention, it also hints at how much she’s grown since playing Brooke Davis. At the same time, it’s become clear that Bush is worth a lot more than she did some 20 years ago.
One Tree Hill Was A Huge Hit But Behind The Scenes, Sophia Bush Said It Was A Mess
Bush was relatively new to Hollywood when she landed the part of Brooke Davis in the CW teen drama One Tree Hill.
“We didn't know anything. We were babies,” the actress recalled while speaking on the Chicks in the Office podcast. “It hit me the other day that when we started our show, I was only three years out of having grown up in an all-girls school where I wore a uniform. Like, what?" Bush said.
"I knew nothing about dynamics, let alone high school dynamics between boys and girls, let alone being a cheerleader.”
The show was certainly well-received by viewers, and it went on to run for nine seasons. And while Bush stayed the entire time, she later revealed that the show’s work environment was anything but safe.
For starters, the actress “fought a lot” with her boss and writers over scenes depicting her character in her underwear. “I remember my boss kept writing scenes for me to be in my underwear. And I was like, 'I'm not doing this. This is inappropriate,” Bush recalled while speaking on Ashley Graham’s Pretty Big Deal podcast back in 2020.
“He literally said to me, he goes, 'Well, you're the one with the big f****** rack everybody wants to see.’”
Over the years, accusations against show creator Mark Schwahn had come to light.
In 2017, Bush and her former co-stars penned an open letter, claiming that Schwahn inappropriate behavior on set was “something of an ‘open secret.’” “Many of us were, to varying degrees, manipulated psychologically and emotionally,” the letter further revealed.
Sophia Bush Later Joined Dick Wolf’s ‘Chicago’ Universe
Years later, Bush also joined the cast of another major television series. This time, it’s Dick Wolf’s crime procedural Chicago P.D. where she played detective Erin Lindsay. Before suiting up for the role, Bush had to undergo some intense physical training.
“We began preparing for the show with a full week of boot camp with the Chicago P.D. We spent time with intelligence officers, who are working under cover, to learn about their lives and the stresses of the job,” the actress told Refinery29.
“We spent time doing tactical training with the SWAT team, as well as drive training. It was a serious process and also so inspiring.”
After staying on the show until its fourth season, Bush decided to walk away from the show. And while she didn’t really say anything about why she left at first, the actress later said that she experienced “a consistent onslaught barrage of abusive behavior” while working in the series.
That said, she also told Dax Shepherd on his Armchair Expert podcast that her time on Chicago P.D. wasn’t as bad as her experience on One Tree Hill.
In Between Her TV Work, Sophia Bush Found Time To Work On Movies
Aside from TV work, Bush starred in several films over the years. One of her first films was the romantic comedy John Tucker Must Die. Later on, she appeared in movies such as Marshall, Acts of Violence, and Hard Luck Love Song. In addition, Bush voiced for the character of Voyd in Incredibles 2.
For Bush voice acting was just the “coolest” gig.
“I’m really passionate about animation, in general, and telling animated stories is something that I really want to do,” the actress added while speaking with Collider. “Especially now that I’m working on the production side of things more, so I went up there just to learn.”
Here’s Where Sophia’s Bush’s Net Worth Stands Today
According to most recent estimates, Bush is currently around $9 to $12 million. And with her continuous tv roles, it stands to reason that she had amassed much of her wealth from doing episodic work.
In fact, reports indicate that by the time One Tree Hill was on its fourth season, Bush and company were already earning around $90,000 to $100,000 per episode. On the other hand, it is unclear how much the actress had received during her time on Chicago P.D.
Aside from doing film and TV work, Bush currently serves as a co-founder of luxury fashion platform Fashionkind.
“I want to offer a megaphone to Fashionkind and its brands,” the actress said in a statement. “But I also want to engage in the conversation of changing our relationship with consumption.” Over the years, Bush has also partnered with fashion brands such as I Smell Great, Eco Tools, and Joe Fresh.
Meanwhile, Bush’s Good Sam currently airs on Wednesday nights on CBS. The medical drama is available to stream on various providers, including Paramount Plus, and is available on CBS’ website.
