Mel C made a brazen remark about former band member Victoria Beckham’s singing abilities while appearing as a guest judge on ‘Drag Race UK Vs The World’. Her fellow judges were delighted, dissolving into fits of giggles, and fans were rather taken aback, with many making a beeline for Twitter to christen Mel ‘Shady Spice’.
Victoria wasn’t Mel C’s only victim however, she also took a swipe at ex-Spice Girl Geri Horner, implying her dancing skills left a lot to be desired.
Mel C Joked 'You Lip Sync Badly... There's a Resemblance. Posh Spice!'
Following a musical number by contestant Baga, in which she performed a song she had written herself, Mel quipped “You lip sync badly.”
“Baga I think you completely embody the humor of British drag and I love that. You are giving me lots of Spice Girl inspiration tonight. You lip-synced badly, but when you were performing, I was like, there’s a resemblance. Posh Spice!”
“But you know what? Your vocals are much better!”
It was Blu Hydrangea’s performance that sparked the Geri Horner comments. The queen had just completed a dance routine accompanied by two puppet cheerleaders, who were attached to her costume in a way that made them mimic her moves.
Gleefully grasping the opportunity, Mel C retorted “That’s a way of keeping Geri in time. We should do that next time we go out!”
The Quips All Seem To Have Been Made In Good Fun However
The digs all seem to have been in made in good fun though, with Mel fully committing to ‘Drag Race’s ‘reading’ culture.
Cementing that Mel’s gibes were likely just jest and the girls are still on good terms, the singer hinted to journalist Ranvir Singh recently that there could be an upcoming Spice Girls reunion on the cards.
“When we did the stadium shows in 2019, we were blown away by how much love there still is for the Spice Girls and how it did affect a huge amount of people, a young generation, so positively.”
Responding to whether the band could ever see themselves performing at Glastonbury, Mel exclaimed “Oh my god that's the dream.”
“Between you and I, I know Mrs Beckham would love to do Glastonbury!”
“It's been rumored a lot, but we do constantly talk about getting back on stage because the shows in 2019 were incredible. We'd love to do it again - once the world allows and we can do it safely.”
