Summary
- Interviews with Colbert focus on achievements, not appearances
- Colbert praised for professionalism and mutual respect
- Anya Taylor-Joy learned to drive on set of Mad Max's Furiosa
Just a few days ago, Anya Taylor-Joy was the headliner on Stephen Colbert's Late Show. The interview did not disappoint, while all fans could talk about was Taylor-Joy's stunning outfit.
If it were a typical interview, Colbert would've spent lots of time discussing the dress, but that's not what took place. We'll take a look back at why Colbert was praised for the interview. He even received love from his guest for the way he conducted the interview. We'll also reveal what the actress had to say about her time in Furiosa.
We're going to wrap things up by taking a look at a rare occurrence that saw Colbert actually bring up his guest's dress. But once again, he did so in the best way possible.
Stephen Colbert Didn't Mention Anya Taylor-Joy's Dress While She Also Praised His Interview Conduct
Following her interview with Stephen Colbert, it seemed as though Anya Taylor-Joy was in the headlines more so for her dress, compared to the actual interview. Joy's dress had all the media talking, and was hanging on with 12 strings tied at the back of the dress. It was also cut very high at the top, even giving off some "butt cleavage."
Still, Stephen Colbert was an absolute professional throughout the interview. Not once does he mention the dress and instead, he's focused on his guest and her accomplishments. Even Anya Taylor-Joy was full of praise for the host at the start of the interview.
She tells Colbert, "You were one of my first interviews, and treated me with such kindness and respect. So thank you for that."
Towards the end of the interview, while Colbert attempts to sign off, his guest asks him if she wants to be his friend. It was mutual admiration between the two.
In the comments section, it was nothing but praise for both Colbert and his guest, Anya Taylor-Joy.
"I love how she takes the opportunity at the very end of the clip to thank him for how he's always treated her. It says so much about both of them," one fan wrote about their chemistry.
"At the end when she goes “will you be my friend? I adore you” … I feel like she represented most of us," another fan writes.
Anya Taylor-Joy Told Stephen Colbert She Learned How To Drive On The Set Of Furiosa
Sure, her dress was absolutely stunning. However, the interview was also an entertaining one, as the actress discussed some of the details from behind the scenes on the set of Furiosa. One of the things most fans didn't realize is that the actress learned how to drive on the set.
"I had never driven a car in my life," she said.
"When George Miller calls you and asks you, do you want to learn how to drive a car to be in Mad Max, you say yes. And then you figure it out as you go along. I'm driving some really cool vehicles in this. The first thing I ever learned how to do in a car is something called a Juicy Lift 180. You just floor the accelerator, then you pull on the emergency break, and eventually you stop."
Surprisingly, the actress went on to reveal that she still doesn't have her license, but it is due to lack of time.
"To be fair, I have been on a month-long press tour for this movie, so once it's over, yes I am planning on getting it. I would really like to have my license. I also want to get my stunt driver's license, I think it would be fun. I have to learn how to parallel park."
Credit to Anya Taylor-Joy and the cast as the reviews have been strong thus far, for the most part.
Stephen Colbert Did Respectfully Comment On His Guests' Outfits In The Past
Colbert did go off-script once before, and it was to discuss Jennifer Aniston's outfit. Once again, Colbert handled the moment with class, and asked Aniston for permission prior to discussing her multipurpose dress.
"Before we go, can I talk about this dress? Can I point something out?" Aniston responds, "You can do whatever you want." Colbert continues, "It is fantastic. It has something that you rarely see in any dress."
Colbert received instant feedback from the fans for the moment.
"Thank you, Stephen Colbert, for modeling the process of getting consent. You seemed like you would genuinely have accepted a no, and asked at multiple salient points. Good stuff. We need more of that in media."
A great moment and another example of Colbert treating a guest with respect.
