Eight years ago, fans witnessed an interview they never thought they'd see between Stephen Colbert and Donald Trump. Colbert started off by apologizing to Trump for his past words. During the rare interview, Colbert decided to play a game with Trump. Given that Colbert is an "over the top conservative," a character similar to Trump - Colbert would read statements and Trump had to decide whether he said it, or Colbert said it.

Throughout the segment, Donald is very spot on. However, one quote in particular came close to almost tricking Donald Trump. Colbert says, "The real strong have no need to prove it to the phonies." Trump says, "That would be... It's not me, but it could be you."

Colbert revealed, "Backstage, he's just like some guy you might meet at a club. I mean 'country club,' not like disco. He's very clubbish and he's kind of innocuous in a way. There's nothing particularly remarkable about him."

"Then he puts on a persona for a camera, and the persona he gave me when he was on the show the first time was actually very quiet and very reserved," Colbert recalled.

Although fans found the interview to be very entertaining, especially given their history, Colbert mentioned that he was "disappointed" by the final outcome between the two.

"I did once. I wouldn't want to anymore," Colbert said. "He was actually kind of disappointing."

The Late Show host continues, "He played 'the reasonable man.' He's always kinda in persona mode. Sometimes he plays, like, the 'rallying populist' and other times he plays the 'reasonable man."
