Steve Martin stood up for his co-star, Selena Gomez after the star received major backlash for her Disney comment.

The comedy legend stars with the Wizards of Waverly Place actress in their new series, Only Murders in the Building. This dark comedy serves as Gomez's return to the television screen, also alongside the legendary Martin Short.

The show is about, "Three strangers share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one. When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive Upper West Side apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth. Perhaps even more explosive are the lies they tell one another. Soon, the endangered trio comes to realize a killer might be living among them as they race to decipher the mounting clues before it's too late."

During promo for the show, Gomez recounted how she "signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn’t know what I was doing." That comment went viral and caused an uproar on social media.

Luckily, Steve Martin quickly came to Selena Gomez's defense.

Martin stated, "I was there when Selena said that, and it was said in the most light-hearted, funny, jokey way. "And then I see it gets interpreted – sometimes they'll say she was joking and sometimes they have it as an ominous headline – but it was completely just all in fun. I've signed my life away to [co-star] Marty Short, you think I like that?"

Steve Martin and Martin Short have one of the most hysterical friendships and had a blast making this show with their new friend, Selena Gomez. Gomez recalled working with her "two crazy uncles" stating, "It was so much fun for me to learn and really feel like I was a part of the gang. They even initiated me as third amigo."

Hulu is truly gifting fans with comedy gold with this dynamic duo!

Gomez herself added, "I'm beyond proud of the work that I did with Disney as well. It kind of shaped who I am in a way." Always remember where you came from!
