Nicks has also spoken about performing the song with her ex, Lindsey Buckingham, who plays lead guitar and sings back-up on Silver Springs.
Talking about their MTV special, Nicks said, "In six weeks of rehearsal, it [performing Silver Springs for the MTV special] was never like that... Only on Friday night did we let it go into something deeper. When we went on Friday, I knew we'd bring it out in case it was the last thing we'd ever do."
"The other shows were really, really good, but they weren't the show I wanted to leave behind. This show was... I wanted people to stand back and really watch and understand what [the relationship with Lindsey] was."

Per American Songwriter, in 1991, she revealed she'd been told by Mick Fleetwood, "he said, 'I'm taking Silver Springs off the record.' And of course my first reaction was, 'Why?' And he said, 'there's a lot of reasons, but because basically it's just too long. And we think that there's another of your songs that's better, so that's what we want to do.'"
When she was told the other song was I Don't Want To Know, Nicks said, "I don't want to sing that song on this record," and was told, "Then don't sing it."
Although Nicks said she "started to scream bloody murder" she realized it was a losing battle and said, "So basically, with a gun to my head, I went out and sang I Don't Want To Know.
