Suri Cruise may have a career in entertainment as the 17-year-old made her acting debut in a recent school play, showcasing that she shares her parents Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ acting talent.
According to a new report by Page Six, Suri nailed a leading role in her school’s adaption of “The Addams Family: A New Musical” as Morticia Addams.
Speaking to the outlet, an audience member said they were impressed with Suri’s performance. “She was amazing,” they said.
The teenager apparently had to write a bio for the performance but made no note of her famous parents. Instead, her bio focused on thanking her teachers as well as the student cast and crew for making the production possible.
Suri Wants To Study Fashion, Not Acting
It's not surprising that Suri chose not to mention her famous father, Tom Cruise, who recently went public with his 36-year-old girlfriend, a famous Russian socialite. Tom has allegedly been estranged from Suri for nearly a decade, shortly after his divorce from Katie in 2012.
He didn’t challenge Katie’s request for full custody when he split, though Tom agreed to pay child support. One report from this year claims he’s been paying around $33,000 per month since then, though that’ll stop when Suri turns 18 soon.
However, that doesn’t mean Tom plans to cut Suri off financially when she’s a legal adult. The actor has reportedly agreed to pay for her college and medical expenses beyond her 18th birthday.
While it’s possible Suri could go on to study acting given her recent role (and her parents’ success in the industry), sources told Daily Mail in March that she was hoping to study fashion in New York, where she’s been living with her mom sine Holmes and Cruise divorced.
Confirming the teen has already sent out several applications, the insider revealed, “Suri is applying to schools all over the place. [Katie] really does want her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other. Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective.”
Nonetheless, the Dawson’s Creek alum is “overwhelmed” at the thought of her only child attending college.
Tom Will Pay For Suri’s Expenses After Age 18
The same source confirmed Tom will continue financially supporting his daughter, though he has no say in where she attends college. “[He’ll cover] medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs,” they explained.
“Tom has always maintained his responsibilities when it comes to financial obligations to Katie and Suri,” the source went on.
Tom may be hoping for a chance to repair his relationship with Suri now that she’s going to be a legal adult, one report claimed earlier this year, adding he’s eager to introduce her to his controversial religion Scientology (Cruise recently shot down rumors he’s distancing himself from the Church with a dramatic appearance at headquarters via a helicopter, very Mission: Impossible style).
