When Survivor fans think about which seasons to watch first, the first thing they often consider is which players appear in each season. After all, the best seasons typically aren't the ones with the worst winners, so it makes sense to seek out the show's best players ever.
Even though fans care enough about players that it is heartbreaking when they get evacuated, the truth is that Jeff Probst is Survivor's main star. With that in mind, it is fascinating to look at a time when Probst humiliated a player who was complaining about their edit.
This article will reveal the time Jeff Probst made a Survivor player who was complaining about their edit look like a fool. Then, the article will look at why that player was so angry about their edit, to begin with.
Jeff Probst Made Dan Foley Look Like A Fool During Survivor: Worlds Apart's Reunion
Ever since Survivor: Worlds Apart first aired, the season has widely been considered to be one of the worst. The main reason for that is the fact that most fans didn't like many of Survivor: Worlds Apart's cast members.
The two least popular players from Survivor: Worlds Apart were Will Sims II and Dan Foley. The main reason for that is the fact that many fans felt both men came across as mean. Most notably, many viewers were offended by how the men spoke about Shirin Oskooi.
As typically is the case, Dan Foley did a series of interviews after fans saw him voted out during Survivor: Worlds Apart. However, Foley's interviews were pretty remarkable since he took the opportunity to complain about his Survivor edit.
By the time the reunion for Survivor: Worlds Apart was set to air, it seemed like a confrontation was going to happen. Since Foley was so open about resenting his edit, it seemed certain he would confront Probst.
Who are the cockiest Survivor players ever who lost, according to Screen Rant?
- Russell Hantz
- Alicia Calaway
- Andrew Savage
- Phillip Sheppard
- Rupert Boneham
- "Boston" Rob Mariano
- Corinne Kaplan
- Dan Foley
- Benjamin "Coach" Wade
- Amanda Kimmel
What Foley may not have recognized, however, is that by complaining to the media, he gave Probst time to prepare for him. By the time the reunion was being filmed, Probst was ready to make Foley look like a fool in front of the world as an article from Hollywood Life revealed.
As footage from the reunion shows, Probst showed clips of some of Foley's most outrageous and unpopular comments. Once that footage was played and the camera showed Foley, the crowd started to boo, which he remarked he was fine with. "Go ahead. Boo me. It's alright."
From there, Probst instantly brought up the fact that Foley had been complaining about his edit.
"So, Dan, let you know, since you were voted out, you guys always do press, and you've, you've been very vocal in the press. You did feel that you were misrepresented and some of your comments taken out of context and things like that. And I want you to feel heard. Do you still, do you still have that frustration overall?"
Without missing a beat, Foley stated that he did feel misrepresented. "I certainly do have that frustration." During the following back and forth, Foley notably apologized to Shirin Oskooi and he seemed to be genuinely sorry.
However, that moment was followed by a continued back and forth between Foley and Probst. During that conversation. Probst undoubtedly made Foley look foolish. Probst did this by bringing up a specific complaint that Foley spoke out about during interviews.
"You said a lot in the press that was not positive about the show. And one of your big comments was when you called Rodney's mom, you said, 'Yeah, your mother's a whore.'"
Foley complained to Probst that the footage of his comment about Rodney Lavoie Jr.'s mom was shown out of context. Foley told the Survivor host that he made that comment after he and other members of his tribe were making a series of "your mama" jokes.
While watching the reunion, it seems very clear that Probst was hoping Foley would make that claim as he had in the press. Because as soon as Foley complained about being taken out of context, Probst pounced.
"I pulled the raw footage of that scene. Okay. Because at a certain point, I have to defend the show that I work on and love. And I'm gonna show the scene."
Probst then proceeded to show some unedited footage that made it completely clear that nobody had been making, "your mama" jokes before Foley's comment. That meant that despite his claims, Foley hadn't been taken out of context at least during that incident. Being completely contradicted immediately after he claimed to have been misrepresented had to have been humiliating for Foley.
During the Survivor: Worlds Apart reunion, Dan Foley stated that despite some of the comments he made, he didn't hate women as some viewers thought he did. "I do not have a prejudice against women. I don't have a prejudice against anybody. So then If I dislike you, you've earned that from me."
When the show cut back to Foley after he saw the footage, his face looked flushed with embarrassment. On top of that, Foley made a telling comment as he realized Probst was about to show the footage. "Under the bus."
To Foley's credit, after the footage was shown, he admitted that he was wrong about the conversation that surrounded his comment about Rodney's mom. "Just because you don't like the facts doesn't change the facts. Clearly, I'm remembering it wrong."
What Dan Foley Initially Claimed About His Survivor: Worlds Apart Edit
In May 2015, Dan Foley was interviewed by People about his Survivor: Worlds Apart experience. By far the most notable part of the interview came when Foley was asked about the negative aspects of Survivor: Worlds Apart.
While talking to People, Foley told the outlet that he confronted Jeff Probst about how he was portrayed during Survivor: Worlds Apart. Foley's comments to People summarized how he felt at the time that he'd been misrepresented on the show.
"I talked to Jeff Probst the other day and I ripped him a new one. I said, 'You did me wrong. You did me dirty. You screwed me on my edit. You made me look like a piece of s—.' And Jeff said, 'How do you figure?' And I said, 'You cherry-picked things to show, sometimes out of context.'”
After Foley spoke about why he was angry at how he was portrayed on Survivor, he was asked a fascinating question. Was he still a fan of the show? Ultimately, Foley admitted that he looked at the show differently, but he still loved it and would play again.
"How can you not have a tainted vision when you pull back the curtain and see that Oz is pulling on the levers? I’m a little disappointed, but I still love the show. Would I play it again? Yeah. In a second."

In this long-running reality competition show, sixteen people are split into two tribes and must survive off the land in various rural locales. Each week, they compete in challenges for resources, luxuries, or immunity — and each week, one person is voted out by their teammates, losing their chance at being the sole Survivor.
