Sydney Sweeney Threw Her Mother A Surprise 60th Birthday Party
On August 27th, 2022, Sydney Sweeney posted a series of images on her Instagram story that thanked a company that helped organize her mom's surprise birthday party. She explained how she wanted to surprise her mom on her 60th birthday with a country/hoedown-themed event.
According to Sydney's story, she told the company what she wanted and they more than delivered. Not only was there a country band, line dancing, and a mechanical bull, but Sydney also organized signature cookies and unique costumes for her family, including her grandma (grandee).
In her story, she explained that she told her mom's friends to take her to a "new country bar" for her 60th. Instead, they drove her out to a remote and scenic location for a surprise party of epic proportions.
While Sydney Sweeney has been dealing with some notable financial issues, she was more than willing to fork over the cash to help pay for an incredible experience for the woman that gave everything to allow her to have a career in show business.
This isn't the first time Sydney has shared some of the experiences she has given her family, but it certainly was the one that caused the most controversy.
Inside Sydney Sweeney's Mom's 60th Birthday Party Controversy
After Sydney posted images on her story, as well as her Instagram feed, some fans started criticizing her.
In fact, a few of them wanted to cancel her completely.
Why?
Well, for one, it was a country-themed party. And you know what country means, right? If you like anything country, it automatically means you're a Republican. And all Republicans are bad, right?
This certainly seems to be the opinion of some on the internet and even certain media outlets who criticized Sydney for allowing particular pieces of clothing at the party.
For one, many didn't like the presence of MAGA-inspired hats. While Sydney nor her brother Trent (who posted the majority of the photos featuring these hats) actually wore them themselves, some of their close friends and family members did.
The vast majority of the angry fans in the comment section on Instagram believe these red hats to be the exact copies of what's become a symbol of former President Donald Trump and his ethos.
But these weren't "Make America Great Again" hats. They were "Make Sixty Great Again" hats... And anyone who has been to a party store (or even been on the internet since 2016) knows that satirical versions of Trump's campaign merchandise are abundant.
On top of the hats, heavy criticism landed on the man believed to be Sydney's uncle.
In a photo featuring Sydney, her mom, her grandma, and a birthday cake, a man is seen wearing what appears to be a 'Thin Blue Line' t-shirt which is connected to the Blue Lives Matter movement.
While the sentiment has been supported by some police unions, and those who worry about the lives of officers, it has been used to criticize the Black Lives Matter movement by the far-right. According to USA Today, the shirts have also been seen at quite a few white supremacist rallies.
While this may or may not be one of these shirts, true fans of Sydney Sweeney know that she was vocal in support of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. And anyone with enough brain cells is aware that the unconfirmed beliefs of Sydney's family may not reflect her own.
Unfortunately, the far-left clearly doesn't see it this way as the negative comments on Sydney's Instagram appear to be increasing by the day.
On top of this, those who like the idea of Sydney supporting Donald Trump, and some of the ideas of his more extreme followers, are waging an Insta-war against them.
Sydney Sweeney's Statement About The Party
It only took a few hours for Sydney to make a public statement on Twitter both calling out some of these aggressive fans and clarifying her actions.
"You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my mom's milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!"
Naturally, this statement wasn't good enough for some.
A few people responded on Twitter further questioning the presence of the Blue Lives Matter t-shirt as well as MAGA hats... despite them not actually being MAGA hats at all.
On a positive note, it did appear that more people came to Sydney's aide than not. Most tried to explain that nothing in the photos suggested that she herself was a fan of Donald Trump or his policies. But others stated that it simply doesn't matter what political opinions Sydney holds privately. What matters is her actions. And spending her hard-earned money on the people she cares most about is a pretty loving and caring act indeed.
