At first, Rolling Stone's interviewer Marlow Stern brings up the idea that Agron inspired Swift's song "22" since the song's liner notes state that. In response, Agron instantly downplays the role she played in the writing of that song.
"Me? Oh, if only! That’s more because of a friendship than being the inspiration for the song. But I would not be the person to ask about that. I cannot claim that!"
Once the topic of Swift and Agron's bond had been broached, Stern appeared to see an opportunity to get the Glee actor on the record about the gossip that the two women dated. The way that Stern did that was just by stating to Agron that fans had "shipped" her and Swift.
In response to that subject, Agron didn't explicitly state that she and Swift never dated. That said, many observers thought that what Agron said about being shipped with Swift was a very strong indication that they have only ever been friends.

In several articles that reference Agron and Ancart's relationship, they report that it is known they were a couple by 2022 and may have been involved earlier than that.
