Taylor Swift might be just one of the most prolific artists on the planet. After dropping sister records folklore and evermore last year, the singer has now quietly released new track Mr. Perfectly Fine, which had fans thinking it was written for her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas.
The track is a previously-unheard breakup song to be included in the re-recorded version of her second studio album, Fearless (Taylor’s Version).
Taylor Swift Releases Song From The Vault And Fans Think It’s About Joe Jonas
Swift announced the release in a hilarious tweet.
“Me in 2020: life is chill, writing songs based in fiction to avoid drama, feeling pretty grown up
My 2008 music from the vault, in a goblin voice: ‘REELEEEEEEASE MR PERFECTLY FIIIIIIINE,’” Swift wrote.
And it seems that Swift — who has just made Grammys history by becoming the first female solo artist to win Best Album for the third time — has caved to that little voice.
Mr. Perfectly Fine hints at a love story that starts off in the most promising way. But, alas, this supposed Prince Charming is a Mr. Casually Cruel who ultimately leaves in the worst possible way.
Swift appears to be roasting Jonas in the chorus: “Hello Mr. Perfectly fine/How's your heart after breaking mine?/Mr. Always at the right place at the right time, baby/Hello Mr. Casually cruel/Mr. Everything revolves around you/I've been Miss Misery since your goodbye/And you're Mr. Perfectly fine.”
"taylor swift woke up this morning and decided that joe jonas is gonna have a bad day,” a fan wrote on Twitter.
“I’m so glad taylor dropped mr. perfectly fine because joe jonas was getting too comfortable in society,” another user commented.
Sophie Turner Had The Best Comment For Taylor Swift’s Song About Joe Jonas
Swift and Jonas dated for a few months in 2008, before he allegedly broke up with her over the phone. They have managed to stay friends, with a song in folklore also possibly referring to Jonas.
On the song Invisible String, Swift sings: "Cold was the steel of my axe to grind/For the boys who broke my heart/Now I send their babies presents,” and fans are convinced it's about the evolution of her friendship with Jonas, who welcomed a baby with Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner in July 2020.
“taylor really sent joe jonas a present/baby present because she knew fearless (taylors version) was coming,” a fan tweeted.
While Jonas hasn’t commented on the new song yet, his wife Turner has sided with Swift.
“It’s not NOT a bop,” Turner wrote in her Instagram story where she’s listening to Mr. Perfectly Fine.
Swift reposted the story, adding “forever bending the knee for the 👑 of the north,” referring the Turner’s character on GoT, Sansa Stark.
