David Eason, the notorious bad boy of Teen Mom, is crying broke after losing custody of his daughter, and it seems like his estranged wife, Jenelle Evans, might be holding the key to secrets that could sink him even further.
David Claims To Be $50,000 In Debt
David, who first found fame (or infamy) alongside Jenelle Evans on MTV’s Teen Mom 2, is now claiming he’s nearly $50,000 in debt and so strapped for cash that he can’t even afford the criminal defense attorney Jenelle was paying for before their messy breakup.
The former couple’s whirlwind romance has been nothing short of a reality TV rollercoaster—from their marriage in 2017 to the birth of their daughter Ensley the same year. But the drama didn’t stop there.
David, 36, has always been a magnet for controversy. Whether it’s his problematic social media posts, his infamous firing from Teen Mom 2 after admittedly killing the family dog, or his legal battles, David’s name has never been far from scandal. And now, he’s back in the headlines, but not in the way he might have hoped.
Back in October 2023, David was hit with child abuse charges after Jenelle’s teenage son Jace accused him of assault. Ever the loyal wife (at the time), Jenelle hired top defense attorneys William and Tara Gore to help David navigate his legal troubles. But even then, Jenelle stood by him, at least until their fiery split in February 2024.
David No Longer Has Access To Jenelle’s Money
Since the breakup, David’s financial woes have only deepened. A few months after the separation, David had to make the embarrassing admission in court that he’s flat broke, officially declaring himself indigent—meaning he can’t even cover basic life necessities. He begged the court to assign him a public defender, and after some delay, his wish was granted.
In a May court filing, David revealed just how dire his situation is. With only $106 left in his bank accounts, including CashApp and Step Bank (a financial app for teens and young adults), he’s in the red to the tune of $797. And despite claiming to make $1,200 a month as a “self/scuba diver/influencer,” he’s drowning in nearly $50,000 of debt.
Most of this debt comes from taxes—David hasn’t filed his income taxes since 2018, the year he married Jenelle, and now owes a staggering $46,000 to Uncle Sam.
Meanwhile, if David’s criminal case heads to trial and he doesn’t take a plea deal, he could be staring down some serious prison time. The felony charge of “assault by strangulation,” a result of the allegations put forth by Jenelle’s oldest son Jace, could land him behind bars for up to 39 months, while the child abuse misdemeanor might cost him 150 days in jail.
David’s legal drama took another twist when he skipped out on an August custody hearing for Ensley, essentially handing Jenelle sole legal and physical custody of their daughter on a silver platter.
And just when you think Jenelle might be taking a breather from all this chaos, she recently hinted that she’s hiding some of David’s darkest secrets. The Teen Mom alum even suggested that she might have spilled the beans to the FBI, adding another layer of mystery to an already explosive situation.
Could this be Jenelle’s ultimate revenge, or is she just playing her cards close to her chest? One thing’s for sure—David Eason’s life is unraveling, and we’re all here for the spectacle.
