These days, it often seems like virtually everyone wants to be a rich and famous actor since it seems like one of the most glamorous jobs in the world. In reality, however, filming a TV show can be boring, stressful, and the furthest thing possible from fun depending on the people working on the series. On the other hand, some actors speak about how much they enjoyed working on a show for years.
Once you realize how great or terrible it can be to work on a show, it is fascinating to learn what your favorite TV stars have said about the show they starred in. For example, now that it has been so long since 7th Heaven was on the air that even the actor who played Ruthie is all grown up, it is interesting to learn what the show’s cast has said about its production.
6 Barry Watson Didn’t Have Faith In 7th Heaven
Unfortunately for some 7th Heaven fans, many of them feel like they haven’t heard from Barry Watson in years. However, in the years since 7th Heaven’s finale aired, Watson has managed to find consistent work as an actor in different roles. Despite that, Watson has expressed a willingness to take part in a 7th Heaven reunion series if one ever took place. While that makes sense since 7th Heaven is Watson’s claim to fame, it is quite the turnaround for the actor. After all, during a 2016 interview with Refinery29, Watson revealed that he had little faith in 7th Heaven succeeding as a show when he was offered the role.
“I remember the days before I even got on the show, and I first started acting, I was like, ‘Oh my god, I don’t know if I ever want to be in one of those Spelling shows. Sure enough, I had the reading for the network, and they wanted me to do it and, actually, at the time, I didn’t know if anybody wanted to see a show like [7th Heaven]. But I was truly wrong. I mean truly, truly wrong.”
5 Beverley Mitchell Considered One Of Her Co-Stars To Be Her Best Friend
In an ideal world, everyone who starred in a major show would become close friends with their co-stars. In reality, however, some co-stars wind up hating each other. Thankfully for Beverley Mitchell, however, she once revealed that she considered Jessica Biel to be her best friend when they were making 7th Heaven. “I do not have a favorite, but I can tell you about one episode that was pretty fun. It was the episode where Eric and Annie renewed their vows and of course Lucy and Mary get into it. Jess and I really enjoyed our fake fight, we really got into it. There is something quite fun about wrestling your best friend. I was never really the athletic or physical one so it was pretty fun trying to take Jess on.” On top of being close when they made 7th Heaven together, Mitchell and Biel remain tight to this day.
4 Catherine Hicks Loved Her 7th Heaven Co-Stars
Just like Barry Watson, Catherine Hicks has repeatedly expressed her willingness to take part in a 7th Heaven reunion even after Stephen Collins became extremely controversial, to say the least. Based on what Hicks told snakkle.com when she spoke about 7th Heaven for the show’s fifteenth season, that makes sense. After all, once Hicks explained that she was initially reluctant to star in 7th Heaven since she wanted to make movies, she reveals how much she grew to love her co-stars and making the show. “I had fallen in love with the cast [of 7th Heaven] and realized the fun of acting. Our scenes were mammoth: It was like doing a play every day. On a lot of shows you go, 'Freeze! Book 'em!' but these were long, emotional scenes. So I thought, ‘Wow, this is really acting.’”
3 Jessica Biel Found 7th Heaven Stifling
In the years since 7th Heaven ended, Jessica Biel’s career has continuously evolved. After all, Biel went on to become a major movie star and she starred in the celebrated miniseries The Sinner. With that in mind, it makes sense that when Biel appeared on the Awards Chatter podcast in 2018, she spoke about feeling stifled when she was working on 7th Heaven.
"I think I definitely sort of butted up against those limitations and those boundaries for a multitude of reasons. Because, yeah you know, you can only do so much with a particular character specifically on a show like that. We really had to sort of stay in the boundaries of a somewhat religious family and teaching lessons, and when ya know you're 16, 14, 15, 16, you get to a point when you're like oh man, I just want to do something different. I just want to cut my hair, and I just want to dye it a different color and I can't do all these things because I have this contract."
2 Stephen Collins Was Worried Starring In 7th Heaven Would Ruin His Career
Several years ago, Stephen Collins was interviewed about his experiences making the show 7th Heaven. During the resulting conversation, Collins spoke about worrying that his 7th Heaven role would severely limit his career due to type casting. “Along comes 7th Heaven and now its like, I wonder if I will ever be able to play a bad guy again. But, it’s ok. It was a wonderful run and the strange thing about this business is that if you’re successful in something, you almost have to prove your way out of that.” Of course, when Collins gave that interview it was before the deplorable things he did in the past were revealed. Now, no matter what Collins is doing with his life, he will always be considered a bad guy in real life.
1 Two 7th Heaven Stars Had A Crush On The Same Co-Star
In 2016, Beverley Mitchell revealed to the world that she had a crush on Barry Watson when they made 7th Heaven together. While that may seem strange at first blush since they played siblings on the show, they clearly weren’t related in real life so there is nothing wrong with that. On top of revealing her own crush on Watson, Mitchell went one step further by writing that their other co-star Jessica Biel felt the same way. Years later when she appeared on Dax Shepard and Monica Padman’s Armchair Expert podcast, Biel confirmed that she once had a crush on Watson.
