While Hollywood is filled with turbulent relationships and dramatic breakups, Amanda Seyfried has done an excellent job avoiding them. At least, so she had led us to believe. Most of her romantic relationships have flown under the radar. Mean Girls and Mamma Mia! fans may not even know that Amanda is married and even has a kid. She's THAT good at staying out of the spotlight. But over the years, Amanda (and sources close to her) has let it slip that she was previously in a somewhat unhealthy relationship with Justin Long. Given that the two looked extremely happy (and oddly nerdy-hot) together in the brief publicly appearances they made together, it came as a shock to fans that things weren't exactly how they appeared.
Justin Long is easily one of the luckiest guys in Hollywood. He's been romantically linked to some of the biggest stars in the world. But his two-year relationship with Amanda Seyfried is easily his best-known. Fans were crushed when the two parted ways in 2015. Amanda and Justin never really made it public why they ended things but rumors suggest that she was ready for something more serious and he wasn't. This seems to be backed up by the fact that she swiftly moved on to her now-husband and he's still playing the dating scene. But if fans look a little more closely at their relationship, they'll see that there was a lot more going on than that...
Instagram Brought Them Together And Real Life Tore Them Apart
If you needed proof that Instagram was a legitimate way to meet a romantic partner, Amanda and Justin's relationship may be the thing that convinces you. Of course, their relationship did come to an end, so perhaps sliding into somebody's DMs is not a good long-term plan? Still, Amanda has claimed that a post that Justin made on Instagram is what moved them from being friendly acquaintances to a full-on relationship.
"I followed him on Instagram," Amanda explained to Us Magazine. "And I thought something he said was really funny. It was a beautiful picture of a snail, and the caption said, 'F**king MOOOOOOOOVE.' It made me laugh out loud, so I texted him."
In the same interview, Amanda claimed that one of the reasons why she fell for Justin was the fact that he was a family man. His favorite thing was to hang out at home with his family. Clearly, this was something Amanda wanted for a very long time. At the same time, she said that their dynamic allowed for both of them to find their own paths and be independent; an important aspect for two working actors in Hollywood.
Unfortunately, this latter point may not have been as true as Amanda thought at first. In an interview with Vogue, she claimed that it was her intense work schedule that stopped the two of them from continuing their two-year-long relationship. According to Nicki Swift, Justin was absolutely crushed after the break-up. But contrary to Amanda's tough work schedule, she quickly moved on to another long-term relationship with Thomas Sadoski. To be fair, Justin also moved on to other relationships but it seems as though Amanda's work schedule wasn't what broke them up. In fact, they actually appear to have been on very different pages in life despite wanting to spend time together. According to Page Six, Amanda wanted marriage and a family and Justin absolutely did not.
A Photo Leak May Have Revealed Some Bad Blood Between Amanda And Justin
A few years after their break-up, Amanda and Justin were victims of the infamous 2019 leak. Many of Amanda's private photos were leaked onto the internet by a hacker and among them were very intimate photos of her and Justin on a paddleboard in the middle of the ocean. While Amanda took down her Twitter response to his hack, her Tweet actually revealed more about her relationship with Justin than it did about her anger about having her privacy violated.
"It was taken by my ex-boyfriend who should have deleted it after taking it during a very private moment. It was leaked from his own device," Amanda wrote on Twitter in 2019.
Fans can dissect this from a number of angles. Firstly, Amanda may be implying that she asked Justin to delete these photos after they took them and he simply didn't and left himself open for a hack. Secondly, she could be implying that she wasn't aware that these photos even existed. While the other photos on the leaked set show that Amanda was clearly aware of the camera, she may not have been aware of the specific photo being taken during their most intimate moment. But there's really no way of know what exactly she meant by this Tweet because she swiftly took it down and never spoke of it again. So, in all fairness, she could have rethought what she said and hoped news outlets wouldn't misinterpret her comments about Justin in a negative way.
While it doesn't seem as though the two ended things on the best of terms, they have basically said nothing about one another to the public since their breakup. Therefore, it's basically impossible to know what exactly went on. But Amanda's tweet about the leak does seem to imply that she wasn't/isn't exactly happy with Justin. And Justin's silence and rumors of a broken heart after their breakup suggest that he wasn't/isn't exactly happy with her.
