After founding Playboy Magazine in 1953, Hugh Hefner would go on to become the most famous publisher in the world. In fact, he became so incredibly well known that even now that it has been years since he passed away, a lot of people want to know what is happening with Hefner’s famous home The Playboy Mansion now.

On top of being the person who ran the Playboy empire for decades, Hugh Hefner became well known for something else, showing up to events with several beautiful women on his arm. Always referred to as his girlfriends, a lot of people wanted to know who those ladies were and what it is like to date Hugh Hefner. For that reason, someone came up with the idea of creating a show focused on the ladies in Hefner’s life, The Girls Next Door. Now that it has been many years since The Girls Next Door’s final episode aired the first time, some of the show’s stars feel like they can be more honest about their time at the Playboy mansion. For example, one of the ladies who starred in The Girls Next Door has said that living at the mansion was so traumatic that she developed a stutter.

Holly Madison Was Called Hugh Hefner’s “Main Girlfriend” But He Married Someone Else

When the first season of The Girls Next Door premiered on E!, the world got to know Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, and Kendra Wilkinson. With all three women identified as Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends, some people may have assumed that they were all on even footing. As it turns out, however, Hefner’s ladies had a surprisingly well-defined hierarchy with Holly being designated as his “main girlfriend”.

Given the fact that Holly Madison was given the title of “main girlfriend”, it isn’t overly surprising that during The Girls Next Door’s six seasons there was a lot of talk about them marrying. Ultimately, however, that would never happen and Crystal Harris is the one who walked down the aisle with Hefner. As a result, she adopted the name, Crystal Hefner and inherited a piece of Hugh's estate with his son getting the rest.

Holly Madison Has Been Blunt About The Reality Of The Playboy Mansion

During episodes of The Girls Next Door, Holly Madison often seemed like she badly wanted to marry Hugh Hefner. In fact, a lot of people wanted to know what the true nature of Hugh Hefner and Holly Madison’s relationship was.

Ultimately, Holly Madison opted to clear up a lot of the questions about her relationship with Hugh Hefner and make a lot of money as a part of the process. To pull off both of those things, Madison released an autobiography titled “Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny” in 2015. In the pages of that book, Madison revealed just how profoundly living in the Playboy Mansion and dating Hefner affected her.

As Holly Madison writes in her book, Playboy fascinated her from an early age. As a result, when Madison got the chance to become an ongoing part of life at the Playboy Mansion, she jumped at the opportunity and quickly moved in. Unfortunately, once Madison became a mainstay at The Playboy Mansion, she quickly had to deal with the reality of all that entailed.

Even though Holly Madison made sure that her autobiography was about a lot more than just intimate encounters, she was honest about that aspect of life at the Playboy Mansion. Madison described the “bedroom routine” only once in her book but that section was very telling. After all, Madison almost describes those experiences that all of Hefner’s girlfriends took part in as a group in a transactional way.

As it turns out, a lot of Holly Madison’s other experiences in the Playboy Mansion are what really dragged her down. Worst of all, in Madison’s book, she writes that she was bullied by the other ladies who lived at the Playboy Mansion when she first moved in. In fact, she reveals that she became so worried that anything she said would inspire more bullying that Madison developed a stutter. Once she began to have trouble speaking, Madison then became even more worried about the consequences of saying anything so she shut down and mostly stayed quiet.

Unsurprisingly, the fact that Holly Madison barely felt like she could speak when she initially moved into the Playboy Mansion was very traumatizing for her. In fact, in Madison’s aforementioned book she reveals that she even contemplated taking her own life. Thankfully, things improved a lot for Madison when Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson moved in since they were a lot more supportive. With that in mind, it is sad to know that so there has been so much drama in Madison, Wilkonson, and Marquardt’s relationships since The Girls Next Door ended.
