Whitney Port And Lauren Conrad's Relationship Became Strained After The Hills

Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port's relationship became strained after they stopped filming The Hills. The MTV reality stars reunited for Port's Dear Media podcast With Whit in 2020 to explain what happened to their relationship after the show ended.

Whitney admitted she felt insecure about their post-reality television friendship after Lauren became friends with someone Whitney was not close to. "I had a friend that I had a falling-out with that you then became best friends with, and I always thought for all this time that because of that falling-out with this friend that it tinted how you felt about me," she explained.

I have felt this insecurity that maybe you thought certain things about me that may not have been true, or that I didn't have the chance to explain. I've always thought that maybe you were upset with me for what happened with that friend.

Lauren admitted she took a break from certain parts of her life after appearing on The Hills, which affected her friendship with Whitney "[I needed to] emotionally recover, and I took some time off and then obviously moved out of L.A.," the fashionista explained on her friend's podcast.

Whitney told her friend and former co-star that Lauren "tried to remove yourself obviously a little bit because it was so personal for so many years, and you were just, you know, you couldn't have that magnifying glass on your life anymore." But, her distancing herself from the show, which made her famous, made Whitney wonder if "maybe she doesn't really want anything to do with me anymore because I'm a part of the show that she wants to move away from."

Which The Hills Star Was The Most Forgettable

After starring in the precursor show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, Lo Bosworth joined the cast of The Hills. Despite that, anyone could be forgiven for forgetting that Bosworth was a part of The Hills cast because her part on the show was so forgettable. That isn’t a slight at Bosworth at all who always came across as a quality person who would likely live a remarkable life. Instead, it is a reflection of the reality that Bosworth was tangentially involved in the show and wasn’t a focus of any of the most memorable moments.

Lauren agreed, saying, "It was such an odd time for me, and I did it for as long as I could. It was one of those things where I was like, this isn't a healthy space for me anymore. I need to live my own life, and I really removed myself from that whole scene."

Ultimately, Lauren used their time on the podcast together to apologize to Whitney and let her know it wasn't personal. "It's just really being like I need to live my life. I lived a certain way for so long. ... I am appreciative and I love you. And I love so many people we worked with."

In a 2019 live taping of her podcast, Whitney explained where she stood with Lauren. As reported by Reality Tea, Whitney explained they were friendly but not very close.

"If we were to see each other, we’d be so excited to see each other and we’re always friendly and we’re always rooting for each other, but we don’t keep in touch; I don’t talk to her on a daily basis…"

So for all you guys wondering if we’re still friends, we’re friendly for sure and will always be an important part of each other’s lives because of our roots, but we do not keep in close contact.

  • Whitey also admitted to Us Weekly they were never as close as the MTV reality show wanted the audience to think.
  • Whitney describes their relationship as "work friends," and that she had her own friends outside of filming.

"I had my own best friends. I had a boyfriend. They would go out and film and they would invite me, and I didn’t really want to be a part of that.”

Do Whitney Port And Lauren Conrad Keep In Touch With Their Former Cast Mates?

Life has not been so smooth for every cast member of The Hills — especially as friends. Years later, cast members reveal how they feel about Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port.

Audrina Patridge details the end of her friendship with Lauren Conrad in her memoir, Choices: To the Hills and Back Again. As Page Six reported, Audrina explained, "One connection that didn’t last was my relationship with Lauren, who doesn’t really talk to anyone from the old cast,” she said, before calling her former co-star "controlling," as reported by ScreenRant.

“There are reasons that she and I aren’t friends anymore, and there was a lot of turmoil between us that we couldn’t talk about on-camera at the time,” the reality star revealed in her book. “It’s what led to me moving out of the pool house out back when I lived with her and Lo [Bosworth].”

Entertainment Tonight reports that Whitney is close with her reboot co-star, Kaitlynn Carter, Brody Jenner's ex-wife.

In 2022, Heidi Montag explained to Us Weekly that she and her former frenemy Lauren Conrad were not close, but were on better terms than they left it on reality TV.

“The last time I did talk to her years ago, it was on a good note and it was a good conversation. So I really wish her the best and I am excited for all her success, that she has and her healthy beautiful kids and I would hope she’d wish the same for me at this point too.”
