Kathy had dreams of making it big, and while comedy may not have been her first choice, it is clearly what worked in her favor. It was at this time that Griffith joined the group The Groundlings, who specialized in improvised comedy, allowing her to gain as much experience within the genre as possible.
Kathy would later tour the country doing stand-up, and instantly became a household name. She was a tell it like it is the type of comic, and people either loved her or hated her for it. Kathy Griffin took quite the 'L' a year after President Donald Trump took office. The comedian took to her Instagram to post a shot of her holding what appeared to be a severed Trump head. While Kathy was known for her risqué material, this was appeared to have crossed a line amongst her fans. Not only did she lose a considerable amount of supporters, but Kathy also lost a lot of work.
She was immediately dropped from her gig as a spokesperson for Squatty Potty, and was under federal investigation by the Justice Department for over 2 months! During this time, Kathy was also put on a no-fly list, where she was then prohibited to travel to keep up appearances on her 'Laugh Your Head Off' tour, which ultimately got canceled. Kathy has yet to bounce back fully from the event, however, she is slowly but surely emerging back into the spotlight.
