The Office enjoyed a strong run and fans are still asking for a reboot, that speculation won't end but at the very least, fans have many episodes to look back on.
Despite the show's success, there are moments that seem to be deemed as forgettable, including annoying storylines. In the following, we'll take a look back at the worst rated episode, and what might've been the contributing factor to its poor rating. The plotline centered around a certain guest star who arguably might've been the worst in the show's history. Let's take a look at the episode in question, and why fans called this particular character the worst of the entire show.
Catherine Tate Was A Fan Of The British Office Prior To Joining The Cast
She took on the role of Nellie on The Office, though fans will always debate her involvement on the show. Nonetheless, speaking alongside MLive, Catherine Tate revealed to being thrilled over her casting, especially given that she was a fan of the British version of the show prior.
“I was a massive, massive fan of the British version. I think it is a piece of modern art. And when I heard they were going to do it in America, I was like, oh what? And then I saw it and I was like, I saw what you did and you raised it. Then they asked me to be in it and it was amazing.”
Although Tate appearing on the show was a major blessing for her career, fans felt indifferent about her involvement. This has less to do with her acting abilities, and more to do with the character she was given as Nellie. Fans think that her role in a certain episode may have contributed in the show's worst-rated episode ever.
Get The Girl Was Rated The Office's Worst Episode And Features Nellie Going After The Manager Position
The Office's worst-rated episode aired in mid-March of 2012 during season 8. The episode entitled, Get the Girl was given a 6.4 rating on IMDb, making it the lowest rated of the entire series. The plotlines seemed to be disappointing, with Andy going to visit Erin in Tallahassee, while Nellie appeared as a guest star and tried to claim Andy's position as manager. She got on everyone’s good side by offering raises.
The episode proved to be problematic for a few reasons. Fans believe Andy was never the same after the episode, and that his character took a change for the worst. As for Nellie, her involvement as the potential manager was not welcomed by fans, while some believe it didn't make much sense from a storyline standpoint either. Nellie basically walks in and gets the managerial role.
It resulted in a forgettable episode and one that hurt both Andy and Nellie's characters. In truth, lots of fans on Reddit weren't onboard with Nellie from the start.
Nellie Was Called The Worst Character On The Office By Fans On Reddit
The thread on Reddit reads, Nellie is the Worst Character on The Office. Hands Down. The post had lots of fans talking, discussing their dislike for the character.
During the main point made by the Redditor, the person specifically dislikes the way she manipulates others. They also speak of the worst episode from the series, and how Nellie lands the job of manager without any experience.
"She manipulates sexism (in a way) to show everyone that she is superior than a male, rather than equal. She steals Andy's job that he worked for, while Nellie just stole the job with 0 experience (she even asks for a job that she can pretty much do nothing).
"Oblivious to wtf a credit card is. Lastly, she not only makes fun of Toby for dressing as him, but also plays him by thinking that she is interested, when she truly isn't. I bet there is more you can think of, but I believe that she is the worst, possibly equal or slightly worse than Packer."
Fans in the thread were in agreement with Nellie's status on the show, among the very worst.
One Redditor writes, "She steals a child. She is horrific. As an Englishman who "tawks like dat" I apologise to you all."
"Other than dressing up as Sexy Toby, I can't think of one funny thing she ever did on the show. I was annoyed when she became a main cast member on season 9."
The fan posts continue, "The whole 'Nelly becoming manager' situation was f***** Most of these people hadn't even met Nelly, and those that did knew her as the head of a failed project. Some woman comes in, steals a job and starts promising raises - and everyone is okay with this once they find out she had her heart broken by a magician. What the f***."
Yup, fans were not impressed...
