Mariah Carey is known to have a long-standing feuds with several celebrities, even Jennifer Lopez became a recipient of some catty jabber thrown by the Songbird Supreme. Mariah also has had a feud with Christina Aguilera as the former behaved like a diva during a party and said some derogatory comments towards Aguilera.So it's not surprising that Mariah also has a feud with Madonna. Both divas are massive superstars in their own right, and they are beloved by millions of their fans. Despite their many similarities and achievements, the two music icons never got along.The feud between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez is nothing compared to the feud of Mariah and Madonna. Both Madonna and Mariah wouldn't go down without a fight, so it's a little expected that their feud continued on for years. So what really started the dispute between the two?
Madonna Started The Feud By Looking Down On Mariah Carey
Every time the Material Girl singer was asked about the All I Want For Christmas Is You singer, she wouldn't really mince her words. When Madonna had an interview with Spin in 1996, she dragged Mariah and insinuated that the singer's work cannot really be considered art.
Although Madonna admitted that she finds the singer quite talented, she doesn't really find her work impressive. The interviewer asked Madonna "Are there moments when you just say I wish I was Mariah Carey, just singing silly pop songs?” and she replied while laughing "I'd kill myself."
When asked about Mariah Carey's chart topping albums, Madonna said, "We have to realize that the same country that acquitted O.J. is the same country that makes a complete piece of sh** movie No.1, that buys Mariah Carey records. It's this homogeneity. But it's got nothing to do with art."
The singer did not stop there. She said, "People need something to look to, something to provoke them into questioning whether they completely hate something or completely love something. Perhaps somebody like Mariah Carey wishes she could make that happen."
Mariah Carey Claps Back At Madonna's Unflattering Words
Of course, the self-proclaimed diva would clap back. She slammed Madonna and said that her star has obviously faded, and she hasn't been famous for a long time. In short, she believes that the Papa Don't Preach singer has already peaked.
During her interview with MTV, Mariah said "I really haven't paid attention to Madonna since I was in seventh or eighth grade when she used to be popular."
Aside from making fun of Madonna losing her popularity, Mariah also poked fun at the posh English accent of the singer and said that she might have adapted during her marriage with English film director Guy Ritchie.
Madonna And Mariah Carey's Feud Isn't Going Anywhere
Madonna has toned down her negative remarks towards Mariah in recent years. Mariah has even praised Madonna numerous times over the last years. At one of her radio show guesting in 2014, Mariah praised Madonna and said "Madonna is a trailblazer, she really helped the music industry in a lot of ways"
She once again said some good words about Madonna after two years. During her guesting on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in 2016, the host straight up asked her about her current relationship with Madonna since they were topping the charts at the same time.
Mariah answered Cohen and said, "Why do you want to know these questions? Honestly… I really respect what she’s done as an artist with her career."
An insider close to Mariah said to Globe Magazine that she is still trash talking Madonna among their mutual friends, and she wants to make sure that Madonna would know about it.
The source claims, “Mariah thinks Madonna’s gross and is making sure Madonna gets the message by telling all their mutual pals. There’s always been tension between the divas because they’re two of the most egotistical, narcissistic celebrities on the planet. But these days, Mariah’s got the edge. She tops Madonna at everything from star power to romance."
The source continued, “Mariah’s laughing over Madonna’s breakup with Ahlamalik and now this NFT stuff. Mariah’s saying Madonna’s finished, she’s aged horribly from all the plastic surgery, and her legacy is over. Mariah also crows she doesn’t have to degrade herself to get hits on social media."
With all these recent happenings, it's obvious that the two are still feuding, and it won't end anytime soon.
