How's the marriage of shock-jock Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky going? If you've come hoping for some bad news, maybe even a scandal or two, we are going to have to disappoint you. The couple has been together for nearly 20 years, finally getting married in 2008. And unless they are just very good actors and pulling one over on us, they are still gooey gushing about one another.
Howard can't believe someone as beautiful as Beth loves him. And she says her heart still skips a beat when he walks into the room. They have three magnificent homes in New York, The Hamptons, and Palm Beach. They seem to lead a charmed life.
Beth Stern is a passionate animal-rights activist who runs a shelter and adoption service for cats. She says the cats really go for Howard's curly hair.
So, it's all good news. Well almost. Let's look at the history of the couple and what's going on in their lives today.
She Was On The Blind Date From Heck When They Met
It was a dark and rainy night in 2000 when feisty DJ Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky met at a dinner party. Howard arrived late and the only seat that was vacant just happened to be across from Beth. Howard was in a bad mood and hungry. So, the only thing he noticed was the food. Beth was bummed out because her blind date had turned out to be a bit of a disaster.
As a joke, Beth decided to imitate a woman who had been flirting with Howard all night. As she tells it, she walked over to Howard, gave a flip of her hair, and told him he had beautiful eyes. He looked up straight into her eyes.
And that was that. She has said: "And that was our moment. He looked through my soul, and I was like...I'm done, and he said that was his moment, too." See what we mean? Gooey gushing.
It was love at first sight for both of them.
But, burned by the breakup of his first marriage, it took Howard 7 years to pop the question. But before he would give her the ring, she had to strip down to her birthday suit. She was then presented with a 5.2-carat diamond ring! Of course, they then made love there and then. But Beth has said she held her hand in the air, looking at the ring the whole time. Who can blame her?
"They", whoever they are, said it wouldn't last. Some have pointed to their 18 year age difference, saying Beth was just a blonde bimbo, a bit of arm candy, and that Howard was bound to stray. Well, she isn't and he hasn't. Even when they married, many assumed the relationship would crash and burn and the world would enjoy a nasty Stern versus Stern divorce. Boy did they ever get it wrong.
In spite of the doubters, the couple has been together for 20 years and married for 12 years.
12 Years Of Wedded Bliss
She has said he is the perfect husband who listens to everything she says. He has said she is warm and supportive. He goes on and on about how she keeps him grounded and sane. He simply can't believe someone so beautiful loves him. And Beth has told the world that the tough shock-jock Stern is a romantic softie who still writes her love letters, adding that her heart skips a beat when he comes into the room.
Now, admittedly their gushing can be a little cringeworthy. Says Beth: "I still get that fuzzy feeling in my stomach every time I see him. We are just so blissfully happy."
Can this be the Howard Stern we know and hate? Apparently so.
And there's more? Think Howard and Beth are the party-hard New York sophisticates? Forget it. Apparently, because Howard has to get up so early every morning for his radio show, the two have dinner at 4 p.m. and are in bed by 8 o'clock! Now that's a shocker.
A Shared Passion
No, it's not what you think. Both Howard and Beth are dedicated animal-rights activists and together have fostered and helped to organize adoptions for hundreds of cats. Hopefully, not all at the same time!
Beth has said that the animal rescues and Howard are her full-time job. And that suits Howard just fine. Some speculate that his first marriage fell apart when his wife Alison decided to go back to work.
Is There Any Bad News?
Not much. But Howard's eldest daughter Emily has sounded the odd sour note, saying Stern's divorce from her mom Alison after 21 years of marriage traumatized her. She also said she couldn't believe he had up and married a model. It was a kind of "how could he possibly do that" moment.
Of course, Howard said her remarks had been misrepresented. He would say that, wouldn't he?
Emily aside, it really, really does appear that Howard and Beth have a marriage made in heaven, the perfect match. We're betting that for them, the lockdown has probably been sheer bliss.
