Both Sonja Morgan and Luann de Lesseps are OG cast members on the Real Housewives of New York City. Sonja became a RHONY full-time cast member in season 3 and Luann has been on the show since the very first episode.
Ramona Singer and Luann have had some tension in the past, as Ramona left a mean comment on Luann's post, and RHONY fans are used to seeing some major fights, like when Carole and Bethenny had drama in season 10.
Sonja and Luann have had some conflict on the current season of RHONY, so let's take a look at what's going on.
What Happened?
Season 12 of RHONY featured some arguments and season 13 has had some dramatic moments between Luann and Sonja.
The RHONY cast members went to Eboni K. Williams' house on November 4, 2020, for the U.S. election and Luann commented on Sonja's alcohol consumption.
According to Reality Blurb, Luann said, There seems to be a shift going on. And now it’s kind of taken a turn for the worst, and it’s hard to watch.”
Sonja appeared on Watch What Happens Live and told Andy Cohen that she didn't believe she had been drinking too much. She said, “No, I wasn’t too lit. And Eboni and Leah [McSweeney] know I wasn’t too lit.”
Sonja also said, “Listen, when Luann isn’t drinking, nobody else can drink. When she’s drinking, she tells me to drink.”
Alcohol is a sensitive topic on RHONY, as according to E! News, Luann was arrested in Palm Beach in 2017 for drunk and disorderly conduct. Season 9 of the show focused on Luann's engagement to Tom D'Agostino and how the other cast members weren't so sure that getting married was the best idea. They got married in 2016 but it didn't last very long and they got divorced. In December 2017, Luann's trouble began.
Fans of the show saw Luann talking about getting sober, and Luann told Page Six that she didn't drink when shooting season 13 of RHONY. Luann said, “I thought it was a wake-up call. And for me it’s like every time it’s like I get to another level, it’s like, ‘Oh well, I know this doesn’t work for me. So, you know, I’m back on the wagon.’ So I feel like I get to a better place each time and listen, sobriety is not easy. It’s a day-by-day thing."
It turns out that Ramona Singer, who Sonja has always been super close friends with, isn't pleased with Sonja's drinking, either. In an interview with The Daily Mail, Ramona said, "You know, drinking can sometimes be your worst enemy, I mean, Lu showed that a few seasons ago. I don't want the same thing to happen to Sonja."
Ramona also said of her co-star, "She and I have some conflict over her drinking this season."
Sonja's alcohol consumption has come up on RHONY before, as in a 2019 episode of the show, the cast went to Miami and Sonja drank prior to everyone having dinner. Luann left, as she was upset, and Sonja also fell asleep.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Sonja commented on her time on season 13: "'I'm going to be honest this past season I was off the rails and I had a good time."
Sonja And Luann's Previous Arguments
This isn't the first time that Sonja and Luann haven't been able to get along.
According to People, Luann was discussing her boyfriend, Garth, in an episode of RHONY, and Sonja got upset, talking about how she dated Tom before Luann married him. Luann got mad, too, saying, "He was never your guy" because they dated very casually and were never in a serious relationship. Luann asked, "Why do you keep making these little digs?"
According to Us Weekly, the two co-stars also didn't see eye-to-eye on another subject: Sonja appearing in Luann's cabaret performance. News broke that Luann gave Sonja $225 to appear. Luann was interviewed on the "Getting Real with the Housewives" podcast that Us Weekly puts out and she said, “Well, you know, Sonja’s complaining about payment, which couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve always payed Sonja and I have major talent in my show. I’ve had Rachel Dratch in my show and Laura Benanti. I have amazing singers and comedians. I’m not going to pay Sonja more than I would pay a major Broadway talent and it generally consists of her taking her dress off."
