Before The Valley Season 2 returned on April 15th, a tense trailer was released that showcased all the new drama that lies ahead with this group of friends that included returning Vanderpump Rules alums Brittany Cartwright, Jax Taylor, and Kristen Doute.
In one particularly heated moment, Kristen calls out co-star Janet Caperna for being a "fangirl," sparking speculation among fans: Was Janet truly a longtime VPR superfan who managed to work her way into this tight-knit reality TV circle?
Kristen has continued to claim Janet was a huge fan of the beloved Bravo show in interviews. However, Janet finally set the record straight while appearing as a guest on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
The Valley’s Janet Caperna Responds To Claims She "Infiltrated" Vanderpump Rules Cast
On May 20th, The Valley's Janet Caperna and Jason Caperna were guests on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, after the premiere of the second season's sixth episode. During their appearance, Andy surprised the married couple with a new game called "Truth Bomb." "Oh my God, it’s the truth bomb! It’s our first ever truth bomb, everybody!” He yelled.
“Every time the truth bomb lands in the Clubhouse, one of my guests has to answer an explosive question we’ve been dying to know," Andy admits. Holding the bomb, Andy reveals a question directed as Janet and it's one that fans have all been wondering since the Season 2 trailer was released.
"Okay, Janet, once and for all, did you move to LA to infiltrate the Vanderpump Rules cast?”
Janet replied, "I want to say yes because that would make such a good story. So, I wish that was true, but unfortunately, it was just Scheana [Shay] and I met and got along." However, Andy wasn't done asking Janet to provide more details as to how she ended up becoming friends with Scheana and how she found herself among the cast of The Valley.
After asking Janet if she "intentionally" went to a pool party that Scheana just happened to also attend, she answered, "I did not know she was going to be there,” Caperna replied. “It wasn’t like an advertised event." Janet also shut down any rumors that she wanted to work at SUR restaurant, which is where VPR takes place.

Speculation that Janet may have been a superfan of Vanderpump Rules ramped up after The Valley Season 2 trailer dropped. In the final scene that sees the entire cast aboard a boat, tensions boil over during a heated exchange between Janet and VPR alum Kristen Doute. Kristen is heard snapping, "Don't make me knock your a** out," to which Janet calmly replies, "Knock me out." Kristen then explodes with, "You're a f****** fan, b****."
Fans also pointed out that Janet called her co-star "Crazy Kristen" during this moment. This was a nickname long associated with Kristen on Vanderpump Rules. How would Janet know to use that reference if she wasn't a fan of the show?
Janet Admitted She Introduced Herself To Scheana Shay "As A Fan"
Although Janet confirmed that it was just a coincidence that she met Scheana at a pool party, she admitted to Andy on WWHL that she was a fan of Vanderpump Rules, because "who isn't?"
Andy asked Janet one last final question: "What do you make of this fangirl characterization? Are you insulted?"
"A little bit," Janet shares. "I kind of love it for Scheana because she deserves to have a superfan."
In an interview with Glamour magazine in May, Janet was also asked about her relationship with Scheana and how it came to be. Her answer seemingly put any rumors to rest that she flew out to L.A. to get a spot on reality television.
Janet revealed that she had moved out of Ohio to Los Angeles after a divorce at a young age. Having family in California, Janet found it as a great escape to "start over."
"I wanted space, and LA seemed like a safe space for me to leave and start over, where I have family and a home base and people to eat Thanksgiving with. I decided to get divorced, moved to LA, and I met Scheana my first weekend right after I signed a lease. I met her at a pool party the next day," she shared.
In the same interview, Janet doubled down on her statements of calling herself a VPR fangirl. She wasn't ashamed to admit that she and her mom were Bravo fantatics.
"So I was like, Oh my gosh, that’s Scheana from Bravo. I went up to her and introduced myself as a fan."
Janet went on to explain that she and Scheana hit it off as they discussed their divorces. "I started talking to her about life, and we had a lot of other things in common. We ended up talking for a majority of the day, and I left and was like, Oh, that’s so funny. What a once-in-a-lifetime thing that I met Scheana, and we had this great talk," Janet said. She even stated that Scheana texted her a few days later and took her on a trip to Disneyland for her birthday after not having many plans.
"She took me under her wing and showed me the ropes, and I thought that was the kindest thing," the reality star said.
Janet Caperna Starred On Vanderpump Rules
In her interview with Glamour, Janet did share that she found it hurtful that people assumed she used Scheana to get on reality television, when what really happened was her finding a good friend in L.A. "When really, Scheana showed me from the second I moved here that she was just a really good person and a friend to me, and that’s what I was looking for when I moved here—a community of people," she said. Janet also mentioned that if it wasn't for meeting Scheana, she would never have met her husband, Jason.
Fans who have watched the later seasons of Vanderpump Rules may have seen Janet pop up in a few scenes after befriending Scheana. In one scene in Season 8, we see Janet hanging out with Scheana and hemming the women's dresses for SUR.
In fact, one TikTok user named @ricciorecaps, shared that Janet was part of a small drama-filled storyline that involved cast members Dayna Kathan and Max Boyens.
In one scene, when Scheana meets up with Stassi Schroeder, Stassi reveals that Dayna—who was dating Max at the time—once suggested that Janet join them for a threesome. The revelation doesn’t sit well with Scheana, who was extremely upset, especially considering her own brief romantic history with Max.
Returning to the fangirl accusations, Kristen addressed the controversy in an interview with Decider, admitting she had a few regrets about Season 2, but calling Janet "a fan" wasn’t one of them.
"I don’t think it’s any surprise to anyone, I’m pretty sure it’s out there on the net, that Janet was introduced to our friend group years and years ago as a fan of the show. This is not to say that I don’t love and appreciate fans of our show. That is why we do what we do. For me, it was the Janet that I had been very close to pre-Season 1 is not the person that I saw when the cameras went up," Kristen admitted.
