Huntley Isn't The Only The Voice Winner To Severe Ties With Republic

The winners of past seasons of The Voice have gone on to do amazing things in their singing careers. However, like Huntley, there have been a few winners to cut ties with Republic Records. These contestants revealed their true feelings about being set up with the label.

The very first season saw Connecticut-born singer/songwriter Javier Colon take home the title in 2011. Although he released his album Come Through For You under Republic, he decided to depart from the music label a year later after believing they did not support his music. Javier spoke to Buddy TV about leaving Republic Records for good:

"But when you pour your heart and soul into a new album that you think is really great, and your label who is supposed to support, market and promote your music does neither, it's really hard not to be upset," Javier said.

The Voice Season 8 winner, Sawyer Fredericks, also made the decision to leave the label. The folk singer wanted more control over his music and became an independent artist. In an interview with Windy City Times, Fredericks explained that he did not like how the record label was pushing him to create music that did not resonate with him.

"I left them really because I felt I wasn't getting enough creative freedom ... I just didn't want that. I've been happy since I left," he shared.
