Chelsea Handler has never made it a secret that she’s not all that fond of Angelina Jolie, which she claims has nothing to do with her close friendship with Jennifer Aniston, though people believe otherwise. Whatever the case may be, Handler has never shied away from the fact that she simply doesn’t like the mother of six, having once even referred to her as a “demon.”
The former Chelsea Lately star has been sounding off on her thoughts about Jolie for over a decade, infamously telling Glamour back in 2010 that Brad Pitt’s then-fiancée “doesn’t come off as a sincere woman.” Handler also told More magazine two years later how she could never see herself being friends with the blockbuster actress as she has supposedly shown signs that she can’t be trusted.
People are in doubt that Handler’s feud isn’t related to the fact that she’s besties with Aniston, who was dumped and divorced by her ex-husband Brad Pitt following his affair with Jolie while filming their action flick Mr & Mrs. Smith in 2005. So, what exactly are Handler’s issues with Jolie, and what was the reason behind calling the latter a “demon?”
Chelsea Handler Vs. Angelina Jolie
Back in March 2013, Handler had made an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, and during her conversation with the chat show host, the 46-year-old brought up Jolie’s name — but her way of words seemed rather shocking.
"She seems like a demon," Handler said.
This hadn’t been the first time that the Chelsea Does star had taken aim at Jolie, but fans were still trying to understand why the pair were feuding, to begin with.
It should also be mentioned that while there appears to be a feud between the two, up to this point, it’s been pretty one-sided as Jolie has remained silent and has yet to address some of Handler’s comments in public.
Handler continued, "It has nothing to do with Jennifer. As a woman, I know when you see somebody walking across the room that's a bad girl. I just don't like Angelina Jolie. I don't think she's a girl's girl. I like girl's girls!”
A year prior, in May 2012, during a candid chat with More magazine, Handler confessed that Jolie most certainly wouldn’t be someone she could see herself being friends with because she doesn’t think the Hollywood A-list is trustworthy and genuine.
And we shouldn’t forget about Handler’s interview with Glamour, conducted by Katie Couric, in 2010, where she was asked why Jolie was someone Handler often incorporated into her stand-up comedy jokes, describing the brunette to be a “homewrecker."
"Yeah, I'm not a fan hers," Handler gushed. "She just doesn't come off to me as a sincere woman. She seems like a woman that you'd really want to avoid." Aniston, she countered, "makes me laugh. She's irreverent and hilarious, and she sends me really, really funny e-mails.”
One of the first times Handler started making jokes about Jolie was in 2007, during a Comedy Central special, which was taped shortly after Pitt’s ex-wife had adopted Maddox Jolie-Pitt.
"He's so pissed off because he probably thought he was, like, scoring the biggest deal of his lifetime, getting adopted by this famous movie star, who was gonna rescue him from his third world Cambodia, only to find out she's gonna take him to every other f-cking third world country in the world," Handler quipped during her act.
"He's probably like, 'When the f-ck are we getting to Malibu like you promised?’"
Handler and Aniston have been the best of friends for as long as we can remember. She even attended the former Friends actress’s wedding to Justin Theroux in 2015.
Meanwhile, “demon” Jolie is still caught up in her ongoing divorce battle against Pitt, with who she is alleged to have called it quits with after a heated argument had supposedly turned violent as the family returned to the US following a vacation in France.
Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016 but has yet to come to an agreement with Pitt that will settle and finalize their split once and for all — but making that happens seems easier said than done with millions worth of real estate and other assets on the line.
The ex-couple had previously also been feuding about custodial rights, with Jolie’s lawyers initially fighting for full custody amid claims that Pitt was a recovering alcoholic.
The two haven’t been on the best of terms since their split, and the fact that they’re still fighting it out in court shows just how broken their relationship has gotten over the years.
