Getting into peak physical condition takes an extraordinary amount of work. Despite some celebrities looking as though they came out of the womb with chiseled pecs, sculpted butts, and ripped muscles, the vast majority of them put hours of training into looking THAT hot and healthy. Yes, K.J. Apa actually has to work for those Riverdale abs! Of course, it helps when you have a ton of money or a network or movie studio actually pays you to see a nutritionist and live in the gym.

Former Disney Channel stars Aly And AJ Michalka may not go to the extent that someone like Mark Wahlberg does to get jacked, but they are dedicated. While the talented beauties have always been extremely health conscious, they seem to be getting their mojo back in their thirties. Ever since TikTok helped their career resurgence as musicians, the sisters (who are also actors) have been even more open about what they do to keep themselves fit...

Aly And AJ Michalka Do WundaBar Pilates With Amy Jordan

Pilates appears to be Aly and AJ Michalka's secret weapon. Their relationship with Pilates guru Amy Jordan is plastered all over social media, especially on her WundaBar Pilates Instagram page. According to an interview by Parade, both Aly and AJ consider themselves part of Amy's Pilates movement.

  • Amy Jordan's WundaBar Pilates can be found throughout Southern California, as well as in parts of New York, and in Jersey City.
  • Aly and AJ can often be spotted at the WundaBar gym in Studio City, California.

"My balance and flexibility have never been stronger due to Pilates," AJ said to Parade in 2019. "I sprinkle in yoga a little bit in my everyday routine if I can, but Pilates on the Reformer [the machine created by Joseph Pilates], for me, is my main form of working out. I have the most fun doing this."

"It’s great for strength, for core," Aly added. "I love that there’s no way to bulk with Pilates. That’s impossible because you’re using your own body strength. It feels great on your joints. My body always feels so good afterward. And warmed up. I don’t know. We’ve been doing it now for the past almost five years and we’re regular Pilates goers."

Not only are Aly and AJ regulars at Amy Jordan's facilities, but they've also guest-hosted a class that featured a bunch of their hit songs.

Aly And AJ Workout With A Personal Trainer

While there isn't any recent information about who trains Aly And AJ, we do know the sisters spent time training with Larry Crystal. According to Healthy Celeb, Larry guided them in both kickboxing and Ninja training. This is something they'd do multiple times per week in L.A., mostly in the mornings before their day.

Aly and AJ even got Larry a T-shirt that read "Aly And AJ's Personal Ninja".

What Aly And AJ Do To Stay Fit On The Road

Given that both Aly and AJ have to travel so much for work (concert tours and television gigs), they've had to find ways of incorporating Amy Jordan's workouts on the road. While they don't have a Reformer machine with them, they are able to do some of her mat workouts anywhere in the world.

"We have the Wundabar Pilates Movement online that she’s created," AJ said. "[Amy's] made a ton of videos, so that’s been our way of keeping up with it when we travel and we bring props. So, we’ll bring discs, we’ll bring a ring, we’ll bring a ball, we’ll bring bands."

On top of this, Aly said that she finds their concerts a workout in itself.

"Our show is kind of a workout; it is very physical," she explained. "We are sweating and moving around on stage so that’s a form of an hour-and-a-half workout throughout the night."

Aly And AJ's Diet Routine

Neither Aly nor AJ have been vocal about loving diets or diet culture. Both are proponents of promoting healthy and active lifestyles for women that don't stress the importance of body image. But they do eat fairly healthy. Even in their appearance on MTV's Cribs in the early 2000s, the sisters showed off their healthy meals from Whole Foods. They also had a wheatgrass shot, which they apparently took every day.

This, of course, was at the height of their fame on the Disney Channel. Something that no doubt contributed to their struggles with mental health. According to PopSugar, Aly and AJ both spent a lot of time with psychiatrists who stressed the importance of limiting caffeine, staying on a healthy but not rigid exercise schedule, and maintaining a consistent sleep routine.

Today their mental health seems to be strong and they're in the best shape of their lives. Instead of focusing on maintaining a body that the media wanted them to have, they keep themselves physically healthy and happy without limiting themselves. While they claim to eat a lot of salads, they also love Shake Shack and are huge foodies.

"We are big foodies, so I think the big thing with being on tour is really finding the hotspots in each city where we can really enjoy a nice meal," AJ said to Parade. "And that’s when I try not to worry about intake necessarily; it’s more portion control. But, for me, if I see an exciting menu, I’m going to want to go there. We’re very eclectic eaters."

Aly and AJ have their favorite spots to eat in the cities they frequent, such as L.A., Vancouver, and New York, but really try to find healthier foods than just giving in to their love of pizza and pasta.

"It’s not always the easiest," Aly explained. "When we’re in a city and there’s the option to have a pizza, you’re like, 'Well, maybe I won’t do that, and I’ll get something instead that’s actually going to nourish me.”
