Tiger Woods' reputation was permanently tarnished by his cheating scandal in 2009. The morning after their family Thanksgiving dinner that year, his then-wife Elin Nordegren smashed his car windows with a golf club after finding out about his infidelity. She was upset that her husband was texting his mistress while hosting his mom at their $2.4 million home in Winderemere, Florida.

At that time, Woods was trying to save his affair with Rachel Uchitel after warning her that his wife might have seen their correspondence... which Nordegren made sure Uchitel knew by informing her herself. Here's a closer look at those two days that led to their $100 million divorce (aside from Woods' "cheesy" Nike ad that made Nordegren "violently angry").

After the brief call, Nordegren started screaming, which woke Woods. Although still lightheaded after taking an Ambien (he had insomnia), his first instinct was to grab his phone and text Uchitel. "She knows," he wrote. "I'm going to be packing."

Nordegren kept screaming at Woods, ordering him to come out. When he did, she took his phone and saw the last text message he sent that says, "divorce." The former nanny hurled the phone back at Woods, which ended up chipping his tooth.

She hit his chest, scratched his face, and then took a golf club once her then-husband got away. Their infamous outdoor chase began. The 15-time pro golf champion ran out of the house barefoot while Nordegren yelled: "You've ruined our thanksgiving! Are you happy now?"

Tiger Woods admitted to his two kids that he made "some mistakes" after his divorce from their mom, Elin Nordegren.

On November 25, 2009, the headline, "Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal" headlined the National Enquirer. The story was about Uchitel who was then a New York City nightclub hostess who was spotted checking in the same hotel as the golfer during the Australian Masters.

In the write-up, she was quoted telling a friend: "It's Tiger Woods! I don't care about his wife! We're in love!" A day before that, Woods put his wife on the phone with Uchitel to assure Nordegren that nothing was happening between them. But the former Swedish model knew something was off.

That afternoon, when Woods left his phone unattended, Nordegren went through his call logs and saw the name Jaimee Grubbs. She dialed the contact knowing it was Uchitel but only got voicemail. She then left a message, saying:

"You know who this is, because you are f- ----- my husband."

Nordegren didn't tell Woods about the call. Still, he decided to warn Uchitel and begged her to stay discreet. "Hey, it's, uh ... it's Tiger," he said in a voicemail. "Can you please take your name off your phone? My wife went through my phone and, uh, may be calling you. So if you can, please take your name off that. And, um ... just have it as a number on the voicemail. OK? You got to do this for me. Huge. Quickly. All right, bye."

At 1 a.m. on November 27, after hosting Woods' mom for Thanksgiving, Nordegren texted Uchitel as the athlete – who was already asleep at that time. "I miss you. When are we seeing each other again?" she wrote. The latter was surprised that Woods was still up. Nordegren then called her, saying: "I knew it was you. I know everything." Uchitel said, "Oh, f***," and then hung up.

In 2021, Rachel Uchitel filed for bankruptcy after breaking an NDA prohibiting her from speaking about Tiger Woods.

By 2:25 a.m., Woods got in his car and drove away while Nordegren took the golf cart. The former crashed into a tree after hitting a fire hydrant. He was left unconscious for six minutes. A couple that lived nearby came to the rescue and saw Nordegren with her golf club and the car's smashed back windows. "Help us," she said.

It's unclear what happened between Woods and Uchitel after his altercation with his ex-wife. But in 2021, the latter said she had a "love addiction" back then. "I will say that that is a very real thing that I think people don't have awareness about," she said on HBO Max's documentary, Tiger.

"It's where people mistake intensity for love and people sort of look to someone else to gain credibility for not feeling credible inside," Uchitel said of her 2009 affair with Woods.

She went on to admit: "Something about myself, which I hope people can understand is that when somebody of a high caliber looks at you and as everyone else wants to know that person, and that [person] only wants you, that's the ultimate kind of credibility for yourself … And how do you say no to that?"
