Tom Cruise is one of the most successful actors of his generation, but he’s not afraid to give advice to the up-and-coming actors, including Timothee Chalamet, after he witnessed the 27-year old’s performance in Dune. During a new interview with GQ, Timothee revealed that Tom sent him a “wonderfully inspiring email” after he finished filming for Dune’s upcoming sequel.
Timothee Says Tom Gave Him A List Of Professionals To Improve His Stunts
“After I met Tom Cruise, right after finishing the first Dune, he sent me the most wonderfully inspiring email,” he explained. “He basically said, in Old Hollywood, you would be getting dance training and fight training, and nobody is going to hold you to that standard today. So, it’s up to you,” Timothee went on. “The email was really like a war cry.”
Tom, who’s known for performing his own stunts, also included a list of industry professionals he though could be helpful to Timothee to advance his career, including trainers or motorcycle and helicopter stunt training.
Though hearing from Tom may be intimidating, especially when it comes with the implication that you need to refine your acting skills, Timothee made it clear he remains a big fan of the actor.
In fact, Timothee (who’s currently dating makeup mogul Kylie Jenner) revealed he saw Top Gun: Maverick 8 times while shooting for Dune 2. He even rented a cinema for the movie’s crew to watch the Cruise movie. “Top Gun was just hugely inspiring to me last summer when we were making Dune,” Timothee went on. “Some of the crew were kind of scoffing at going, but I just thought it was one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen.”
Timothee may only have positive things to say about Tom Cruise, but not everyone who’s worked with the legendary actor have expressed good sentiments.
Many People Claim Tom Cruise Is Intimidating To Work With
For example, Thandie Newton admitted in 2020 that filming Mission: Impossible II with Cruise two decades earlier was a “nightmare,” calling the action star intimidating to interact with while filming.
“I was so scared of Tom,” the Westworld actress explained. “He was a very dominant individual. He tries super hard to be a nice person. But the pressure. He takes on a lot. And I think he has this sense that only he can do everything as best as it can be done."
She also claimed that Tom was very open about his Scientology beliefs (though recent reports claim he’s been trying to distance himself from the church).
Tom’s The Mummy co-star Annabella Watts echoed similar sentiments to ScreenRant when she claimed Cruise has strict rules while on set. “He’s on a different level, and, you know, I ticked a box. I got to run on-screen with him, but he told me no at first. He said, ‘Nobody runs onscreen with me,’” she explained.
Needless to say, if Timothee ever gets the opportunity to work with Tom Cruise, he better be prepared to put his best foot forward.
