Since The Traitors premiered, the celebrated reality show has become extremely popular. In fact, not only has Alan Cumming working hard as the show's host earned him many new fans, but even his dog has become famous. That said, the key to The Traitors' success has been its many memorable players. After all, fans love talking about things like the cheating allegation, what made Dan Gheesling so bad at the game, and about Tony Vlachos' shocking early exit.
When the cast for The Traitors' third season was announced, nobody expected the Vanderpump Rules villain Tom Sandoval to become a sensation in Alan's castle. Despite that, The Traitors fans have been talking about Tom a lot. Tom later went on to respond to one of the things that The Traitors fans had been talking about — his sweaty armpits on the show.
The Traitors' Tom Sandoval Explained Why His Armpits Were So Sweaty
When fans watch episodes of their favorite reality competition shows, it is impossible for them to know what it is like going on one of those shows. Instead of having to cope with the stress of fighting to stay in the game, fans can sit back and judge how the players behave in the game.
Considering how stressful it would be to compete on a show like The Traitors, it would only be natural for the players to occasionally feel sweaty. That said, most viewers were taken aback while watching a scene from The Traitors Season 3 because Tom Sandoval's armpits looked so sweaty. In fact, Tom's armpits were so sweaty that it was easy to see they were wet from the front when he was holding his arms down.
Evidently, it wasn't just The Traitors viewers who were astonished by how sweaty Tom's armpits were. After many fans reacted to the situation on social media, Tom addressed how sweaty his armpits were.
On January 24th, 2025, Us Weekly published an article about how Tom addressed how sweaty he was during The Traitors. As that article summarized, Tom posted Instagram stories about the situation, which meant his posts disappeared after 24 hours.
How Many Reality Shows Has Tom Sandoval Starred In? | |
---|---|
Reality Show | Tenure |
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills | 2012-2014 |
Vanderpump Rules | 2015-2024 |
Special Forces: World's Toughest Test | 2023 |
The Masked Singer | 2023 |
The Traitors | 2025 |
Tom's first reaction to his sweaty armpits was to simply admit that being so sweaty didn't look great.
Man, that video, I looked rough.
Tom then went on to explain what led to his memorably sweaty situation.
While addressing his sweaty armpits, Tom began by bringing up something that affected him on The Traitors that most fans never think about.
Since The Traitors became a hit, fans have been learning more about how the show is filmed. For example, Alan Cumming revealed in a January 2023 The Daily Beast interview that the cast of The Traitors doesn't actually sleep in the castle. "[The cast] stayed in the airport hotel in the Inverness airport. How glamorous—you come to Scotland, and you stay in the Inverness airport hotel."
As Tom explained, traveling to Scotland where The Traitors is filmed deeply affected him. As Tom explained, his heavy travel schedule made his health suffer and that played a role in his sweaty armpits.
“I also felt like s***. I mean, I had, like, over 24 hours of travel, including an eight-hour layover, which made my immune system go to s*** and cause the domino of problems. I’m sure you could tell my eye was swollen because I got a stye in my eye, and the stress and the weakened immune system caused canker sores, sore throat.”
There are certain reality show rules that a lot of fans don't even realize exist. One example of that is the fact that many fans don't realize is that can be a lot of rules about what people can and can't wear on the show.
In December 2023, Reality Blurred published an article about why Survivor fans shouldn't judge the players for what they wear on the show. As that article revealed, Survivor players have to get approval for everything they wear on the show and the rules can be very strict.
According to Tom's Instagram stories about his sweaty armpits, The Traitors' wardrobe rules played a major role in the situation.
While addressing how sweaty he looked during The Traitors Season 3, Tom explained that a sweater that was chosen for him made him sweaty.
“I was at the mercy of the wardrobe department, which, by the way, they did a great job... [That day], they gave me the thickest wool sweater I’ve ever worn. And man, that thing, I was sweating my a** off. It was hot in there. And well, I’m only human.”
On the bright side, Tom didn't just explain why he was so sweaty during The Traitors Season 3. Instead, Tom also wrote that he can have fun with the situation in retrospect.
At least I can laugh at it now, as you guys all have.
Many The Traitors Fans Had A Very Different Theory About Tom Sandoval's Sweaty Armpits
Considering what Tom Sandoval wrote about his sweaty armpits, his explanation actually makes a lot of sense. It is easy to imagine how feeling sick after lengthy travels and wearing an extremely warm sweater can make someone extremely sweaty. That said, many fans suggested another explanation for why Tom's armpites were so sweaty.
The day after The Traitors third season premiered on Peacock, a fan on the r/Vanderpumpholics subreddit posted about Tom's sweaty armpits. That post which was titled "Tom Sandoval’s disturbing armpit sweat" asked a question that revealed that they thought a substance made Tom so sweaty.
What drug induces this?
While that fan suggested that ingesting a chemical caused Tom to have such sweaty armpits, another fan offered the opposite explanation.
One of the top most-upvoted responses to the post suggested that person's belief that Tom was so sweaty because he wasn't taking a substance. "He's detoxing."
