Summary

  • Tony Romo referred to Taylor Swift as Travis Kelce's "wife" during a game, sparking rumors about their relationship status.
  • This isn't the first time Romo has made the same mistake, further fueling speculation about Taylor and Travis secretly getting married.
  • Taylor's publicist previously denied rumors of secret marriages, but hasn't addressed the recent engagement and marriage rumors about Swift and Kelce.

It’s not only rumors that are fueling speculation Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are on their way to the altar. Those close to the couple aren’t helping, either, as Tony Romo once again referred to Taylor as the NFL star’s “wife,” not just girlfriend.

Romo was acting as a commentator for CBS during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders game on December 25. Taylor was in the stands to watch her boyfriend defend the Chiefs. And despite it being Christmas Day, the singer brought along her parent to watch the game.

When Romo was talking about Travis’ 900th career reception, the camera quickly zoomed in on Taylor, who was happily cheering him on. This led the commentator to make a suggestive comment, which has gotten fans talking.

“And his wife loves it — I mean girlfriend,” Romo said while quickly correcting himself.

Taylor and Travis went public with their romance in the summer (only months after it was revealed she broke up with her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn). While Romo’s comment could’ve been a slip of the tongue, the pair haven’t been together very long. So, it’s possible the commentator knows something fans don’t know about Taylor and Travis’ relationship status – or, should we say marital status.

This isn’t the first time Romo has referred to Taylor as Travis’ “wife.” He made the same error during the Decemebr 10th game when the Eras hitmaker was in the audience.

“As you see, Kelce’s wife, Taylor Swift, in the audience,” Romo, who used to play for the Dallas Cowboys, told the audience when cameras spotted Swift in the crowd. “I’m sorry, girlfriend,” he said quickly correcting himself.

The reference to Swift as Kelce’s “wife” has certainly got people talking, with many online sleuths questioning if there’s a chance the pair secretly got married, or at least engaged. Or, it could also just be a good PR stunt on Romo’s part, given how much attention it garnered (or a mistake, at the very least).

There was speculation that Kelce would propose over the holidays, as the two are reportedly getting very serious. But for now, nothing has been confirmed and Taylor wasn’t wearing an engagement ring on the Christmas Day game.

Taylor is used to dodging marriage rumors. Only a few weeks ago, her publicist issued a statement denying that Taylor married Joe Alwyn in secret during their years-long relationship.

“Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi,” Taylor’s publicist Tree Paine wrote last month on X (formerly Twitter) in response to rumors started by Instagram gossip page Deux Moi. “There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It’s time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these.”

For now, Taylor’s publicist hasn’t formerly addressed the engagement and marriage rumors about Swift and Kelce.
