10 Travis Scott Scandal: Egyptian Concert Canceled

At the end of July 2023, Travis was planning on putting on a concert at the foot of the pyramids in Egypt to launch and promote his new Utopia album. However, after Egyptian officials found out that Travis supported the Afrocentric movement, in which believers state Egyptians are descendants of Africans, the concert was canceled.

"Since the General Syndicate is part of the fabric of this beloved country it is keen on its stability and refuses to tamper with societal values and Egyptian and Arab customs."

The statement from Eqyptian officials went on to say, "Based on research and documented information about strange rituals at Travis’s concerts that are inconsistent with our authentic societal values and traditions, the Board of Directors has decided to cancel the license issued to hold this type of concert that contradicts the cultural identity of the Egyptian people."

As such, Travis' plans were dashed to perform in Egypt and done so just days leading up to the event.

But in 2021, the crowd surged during his performance. Hundreds of people were injured and 10 people died, with ages ranging from 14 to 27.

A criminal investigation was launched following the tragedy. Travis and the festival organizers faced criticism for not having more stringent security measures, and the rapper’s history of inciting violence at his concerts was dug back up.

Travis made a public statement on Twitter about the fatal festival but didn’t apologize. "I am absolutely devastated by what took place last night," he tweeted.
