Tristan Thompson’s relationship with his third baby mama Maralee Nichols is anything but simple. The two have struggled to come to terms with their situation, even after a paternity test confirmed that Tristian is indeed the father of Maralee’s son.
Along with dragging his name through the mud, his affair with Maralee ruined his romantic relationship with his other baby mama, Khloe Kardashian. The NBA star finally reached a paternity agreement in December of 2022 all but confirmed that Tristan wants little to nothing to do with Maralee or their son, one-year-old Theo. According to Maralee, the two's relationship was anything but casual. “Tristan and I communicated daily and talked on the phone. We would see each other several times a month,” said Maralee. Maralee has said that things were so serious between the two that Tristain invited her to spend Christmas, New Years, and his birthday with the NBA star. It was at his birthday party in Houston in March 2021.
At the same time, Khloe was on Instagram proclaiming her love for her baby daddy. “The ones that are meant to be are the ones who go through everything that is designed to tear them apart and they come out even stronger than they were before. Thank you for showing me everything you said you would. For the father you are. For the best friend, I have in you. I'm thankful that I can do absolutely nothing with you and it feels like everything,” said Khloe via a caption on Instagram.

According to Maralee Nichols, Tristan does not see his baby, Theo, that he shares with her. In fact the NBA star has apparently never even met his son, Theo. Maralee is a doting mother, according to her Instagram account. She has yet to post videos revealing her baby's face, but she frequently posts about how much her son means to her and how happy she is to be a mother.
Speaking with People Magazine in February 2022, Maralee explained that she chose the name Theo because it means “a gift from god.” “I couldn’t believe I was pregnant, when I saw you on the ultrasound and heard your little heartbeat I knew I would always protect you and keep you safe. I love you more than you’ll ever know. You bring such joy and happiness into my life. My great blessing,” she said to People.
Tristan has at least been honest about wanting nothing to do with his son with Maralee. Court documents containing text messages between Maralee and Tristan give a little insight into the mayhem that ensued after Maralee became pregnant. One text message from Tristan to Maralee said, “I’m engaged but I will be married soon. I told you I won’t and can’t be in the child life at all by no means… Why not wait till you find the right person to have a family with. Why would you want a baby with a man that’s engaged? You wanna keep a mistake?”
Tristan was also making strange declarations about his relationship with Khloe to Maralee at the time, like that the couple would be eloping and moving out of the country with their daughter, True. Once the paternity test came back and clearly indicated that Tristan was the father, he had no choice but to publicly address the situation. He took to Instagram, where he said “Now that paternity has been established, I look forward to amicably raising our son. I sincerely apologize to everyone I've hurt or disappointed throughout this ordeal both publicly and privately.”
Does Tristan Thompson Pay Maralee Nichols Child Support?
Although Tristan has yet to meet his son with baby mama Maralee Nichols, he does pay her monthly child support. According to their agreement, Tristan pays Maralee $9,500 a month in child support. That number could fluctuate in the future, as Tristan currently isn’t playing in the NBA so Maralee and Theo’s monthly allowance comes from his overall net worth rather than his salary. At one point, Tristan was making over $50 million while playing in the NBA.
Maralee has claimed she asked for nothing from Tristan throughout her pregnancy. She’s seeking money now because her son needs it, not for herself. She wants to ensure her son has the best life possible, by all means necessary.
“Instead of focusing on any negativity, I am choosing to embrace being a mother and doing the best I can for my son. I do not want any further media attention, nor do I want a romantic relationship with Tristan,” said Maralee to UsWeekly.
Despite everything that has happened, Tristan has managed to stay in the Kardashian’s good graces. He was just spotted with Kim Kardashian at one of North West’s basketball games. It seems that no matter how much wrong he does, he’s still part of the family. Sources close to the family insist Khloe has no intention of ever rekindling a romantic relationship with Tristan, however. Even with the two becoming great friends again post Tristan’s numerous affairs, sources insist they are a united front so their two children can grow up with both of their parents around them.
